Amina Wilfred has won the 22nd Ladies Open Golf Championship held at the IBB International Golf and Country club on the 16th of February 2020.

Amina Wilfred defeated Uganda’s Irene Nakalembe to win the three-day golf championship, which attracted over one hundred golfers from the African continent.

Amina Wilfred, a woman police inspector, shot a combined gross score of 254 to emerge champion said she was ready to regain the trophy from the Ugandans who had won it twice in a row.

According to Amina Wilfred:

“I feel happy. I thank God for emerging champion in this tournament. It’s not by my power but God for giving me this opportunity to win this tournament.

Last year, the Ugandans came here and took the trophy but this year, we told them we were ready for them. This time I trained hard to regain this trophy for Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, the winner of the 2017 edition, Racheal Danjuma came second with a gross score of 256.

According to the former lady captain of Jaji Golf Club, her target next year is to help Nigeria retain the trophy.

In the words of Racheal Danjuma:

“This is my first time of coming second and I recall last year telling you all that the Nigerians will win it this year and here we are, we did it. That is my happiness and my joy. Next year, the target is to retain the trophy. The winner is a sister and a colleague, and it’s like me winning the trophy.”
