Adebayo Alonge’s RxAll Wins 2019 BNP Paribas Group DeepTech Prize

Adebayo Alonge’s startup – RxAll has won the 2019 BNP Paribas Group Deep Tech Prize for co-developing a handheld nanoscanners that uses artificial intelligence to identify fake drugs and assess general drug quality on mobile phones.

The 2019 BNP Paribas Group DeepTech Prize comes with a €100,000 prize.

An emotional Adebayo Alonge while receiving the award, said:

“Thank you so much. It’s been a long journey personally for me, from the 15 years when I was surviving from a fake drug to standing today in front of you here and letting you to be in my dream and the dream of my co-founders to make sure that most of people are safe from fake medicines.”

Winners Of 2019 Rotary Spelling Bee Competition

Winners have emerged in the yearly Spelling Bee Competition held by Rotary International District 9110. They are Miss Nicole Okpala of Mayors Heights College, first position; Daniella Moseri, also of Mayors Heights College, second position and Ibrahim Olapade of Oregun Senior High School, Ikeja, Lagos, who came third.

Eight schools competed in the over one hour event. They were represented by two pupils each. Besides Mayors Heights College and Oregun Senior High School, the other schools were Command Day Secondary School, Ikeja, Charles Lorie French College, Eko Akete Senior Grammar School, Olomu High School, David Hall School, and Oxbridge Tutorial College. The pupils answered over 100 questions drawn from several subjects in the spelling competition.

Wecyclers Wins 2019 King Baudouin African Development Prize

Wecyclers, a Lagos-Based waste recycling company, has won the 2019 King Baudouin African Development Prize worth €200,000 (₦104 million) for its development work in Africa.

According to Herve Lisoir, Coordinator Africa and Developing countries, King Baudouin Foundation:

“We selected Wecyclers because we know that waste management is an issue for Lagos, Africa and Europe. We celebrate your innovation, perseverance and keeping it real.”

Tanitoluwa Adewumi Wins New York State Chess Championship [2019]

Tanitoluwa Adewumi has emerged the winner of the state-wide New York’s chess championship in the third-grade category (kindergarten through third grade) with over a year of learning.

He won the competition with an undefeated performance.

Prior to becoming the champion, Tanitoluwa Adewumi won seven trophies, which stay by his bed as he aims to be the youngest grandmaster. This title is currently held by Sergey Karjakin Ukraine, a chess prodigy who qualified for the title at the age of 12 years and 7 months.

Emelife Stella Chinelo Sets Record At University of Mysore, India

Emelife Stella Chinelo, a 28-year-old has topped the University of Mysore in MSc Chemistry receiving 20 gold medals and five cash prizes, the highest ever in post-graduation studies, during the university’s 99th convocation in India.

She received the maximum Gold medals available in the institution. Nobody in the history of that university have ever won 20 gold medals.
