United Nations General Assembly has elected Nigeria to occupy a vacant seat at the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the economic arm of the United Nations, for a three-year term, beginning January 1, 2024 (2024-2026).

Iyabo Masha Emerges First African Appointed Director Of Intergovernmental Group Of 24 On International Monetary Affairs And Development (G24)

The Intergovernmental Group of 24 on International Monetary Affairs and Development (G24) has appointed Iyabo Masha as its new director.

The organisation, in a statement issued in Washington DC said the Nigerian was appointed on February 24, 2023 and is the first African to occupy the position since its establishment and would succeed the outgoing director, Marilou Uy.

The G-24 was established in 1971 as a representative grouping of developing countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

Dr. Goodluck Jonathan Appointed To International Advisory Board Of The European Corporate Council On Africa And The Middle East

Former Nigerian president Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has been appointed to the international advisory board of the European Corporate Council on Africa and the Middle East.

The appointment makes Dr. Goodluck Jonathan the first sub-Saharan African leader to serve on the board of the ECAM Council, a non-profit organisation established with the purpose of promoting and developing relations between the countries of Europe, Africa and the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region, with Italy playing a leading role.

Nigeria Re-elected Into AU Peace And Security Council (AUPSC) [2022]

The Federal Republic of Nigeria has been re-elected into the African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) to represent the West African region, the Nigerian embassy in Ethiopia said in a press release.

Nigeria will sit in the council for another three years (2022-2025).

The West African country had 44 votes in the first round to secure the statutory two-thirds votes required to win the election.
