“We at Mathematics for Life Foundation are interested in building capacity for students in Nigeria to be exceptional in the field of Mathematics and able to compete shoulder to shoulder with students from the developed nations.”

High points of the 2019 mathematics conference and exhibition was the presentation of prizes to Kingsley Igbokwe, a final year law student from University of Nigeria, Nsukka who won the National essay competition.

Igbokwe’s entry on the topic “the effect of Free and Fair election on Nation building” was adjudge the best was presented was a cash prize of 100,000.

According to Kingsley Igbokwe:

“The essay, using Nigeria as a case study, makes a historical evaluation of elections in Nigeria and maintains that there has never been a free and fair election in Nigeria till date. Also, it posits that a free and fair election is one characterised by a transparent and well-managed election, full participation of the people, free operation of political parties, freedom of the press and an impartial judiciary.

In the main, however, the essay dwells on the fact that free and fair elections promote democracy, protect human right, and reduce violence.

Lastly, the essay proposes the adoption of ICT, high level of professionalism in media reportage, and importantly (in Nigeria) the autonomy of INEC where INEC chairman is elected by INEC state coordinators or the national assembly to ensure an independent institution for a free and fair election in Nigeria.

I want to thank the Foundation for the great opportunity. Many thanks to Temitope Oshuntuyi and the entire Oshuntuyi family. My special appreciation goes to Chinyere Princess Offor who was assigned to me to help in the preparation to suit the timing. I’m grateful!”

There was also National Merit award presentation to the outing performance in the 2018 WAEC and UTME.
