Naomi Uwem Emerge 2017/2018 Nigerian Law School Best Graduating Student

Naomi Uwem, a graduate of Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) graduates as the 2017/2018 best student from the Nigerian Law School (NLS) winning thirteen (13) awards for her achievement at the prestigious school.

She graduated as the best out of the 161 students who bagged First Class degrees; and received 13 awards during her Call to Bar ceremony.

According to reports, among the awards received by Naomi Uwem include:

  • 1st prize in Civil Litigation
  • 3rd prize in Criminal Litigation
  • Stephenson Harwood Prize for the Best Graduating Student
  • Best female student in Civil Litigation
  • Best Female student in Civil & Criminal Litigation
  • Best overall female student
  • Best student of the year from Ademola Adetokunbo, Taslim Elias and Atanda Fatai Williams
  • Most Promising Graduating student of the year
  • Award for First Class

The Ikeja Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association has awarded Miss Naomi Uwem Ekob a cash prize of 200,000 as best student at the 2018 Bar Final examination of Nigerian Law School.

Naomi Uwem, currently working as a legal assistant to a judge, received the prize at the 15th Chief Gani Fawehinmi Annual Lecture in Lagos on the 15th of January 2019 themed: Securing the Independence of INEC — A Panacea for a Free, Fair and Credible Elections in Nigeria.

The Chairman of NBA Ikeja branch, Mr. Dele Oloke, while presenting the award to Naomi Uwem, said the kindhearted nature of Fawehinmi had prompted the branch to establish the award to encourage and reward academic excellence at the Nigerian Law School.

In his words:

“This scholarship award attracts a cash prize of 200,000 and the first of such award will be given today.

Mr. Patrick Olumide-Fusika (SAN) undertook to fund the first to third editions of the award, while Mr. Oladele Adesina (SAN) also announced that he would fund the fourth to the sixth editions of the award.

In following the philanthropic attributes of Gani Fawehinmi (SAN), Mr. Olukayode Enitan has also graciously announced his willingness to fund the seventh to ninth editions of the scholarship award.”

Reverend Father Gabriel Emeasoba emerged as the best male graduating student. He attended the Nigerian Law School as a Catholic priest after his degree programme at the University of Lagos.
