The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has inaugurated a mobile application known as  iPolice-Hawk Eye Crime Reporting System to eradicate insecurity in the country particularly kidnapping.

The iPolice-Hawk Eye Mobile App allows users to report crimes anonymously to the police by video, voice or text.

According to Representative of the FCT Commissioner of Police, DCP Arungwa Nwazue:

“The inauguration of the mobile app is in line with the collaborative approach to security and policing that is gaining ground across the world.”

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) inaugurates the app, in partnership with Lagos-based tech firm, Web Assets Nigeria Limited, U.S. based tech firms BBGN&K, and tech giant Microsoft.

Microsoft supported the app with facial recognition technology as well as KPI Key Performance Indicator to help monitor performance and response to crime by officers.

In addition, the developer of the app and Managing Director, Web Assets, Kayode Aladesuyi said:

“Hawk Eye is a revolutionary technology because of the enterprise tools it provides police to respond, address and manage crimes as soon as they are reported.”

Citizens can download the app for free, select the crime type to be reported, capture image, video or call for help. The app uses the GPS on the user’s phone to get user’s location for immediate response.

The system for the first time in the history of Nigeria police provide visibility across chain of command. This means that every crime reported is seen and monitored all the way from division, area and state command all the way to Force HQ. Meaning officers can no longer fail to show up without someone knowing or arrest people without someone knowing.

The app is available in English and Nigeria languages and could be downloaded from various mobile platforms.
