Yemisi Olatunji Wins Zimbabwe Squash Open Championship [2018]

Nigeria’s number one female squash player, Yemisi Olatunji has won the SafeGuard Zimbabwe Squash Open Championship after defeating her sister, Busayo Olatunji to win the women’s final, which ended in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwe Squash Open Championship, which featured players from South Africa, Zambia, Swaziland, Nigeria and host country, Zimbabwe’s male and female teams, was organised to develop and expose African stars.

Victorious Yemisi Olatunji stated:

“Squash players need more sponsors to excel. The Zimbabwe championship is another avenue to expose squash players in the country. If the private sector and government at the state and federal levels assist in sponsoring squash, Nigeria would be among the best in the world.”

A total prize worth $5000 was given out to participants, who distinguished themselves at the championship, which started on August 3.

The Nigerian contingent could not come out victorious in the male category, as Idowu Emmakure was beaten in the third place game to finish fourth in the category, just as the men also settled for third place in the doubles event.
