2025 ITTF-Africa Para Championships: Team Nigeria Emerge Champions

Team Nigeria has emerged winners of the 2025 ITTF-Africa Para Championships in Giza, Egypt with six gold medals to qualify for the 2026 World Championships.

Nigeria narrowly surpassed host nation Egypt, which secured five gold.

The 2025 ITTF-Africa Para Championships, which brought together top competitors from across Africa— including Algeria, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, and Nigeria also served as a qualifier for the 2026 World Championships in Bangkok, Thailand.

Leading the charge for Nigeria was 2024 Paralympics bronze medallist Ogunkunle Isau, who clinched gold in the men’s singles classes 4–5. Adesope Abiola Wali, Farinloye Victor, and Lawal Kehinde also contributed to Nigeria’s impressive medal haul with victories in their respective singles events.

Isau’s stellar performance extended to the doubles arena, where he paired with Oputa Kate to win the mixed doubles class 10 title. In another display of Nigerian prowess, Adesope Abiola Wali and Kehinde secured gold in the mixed doubles classes 14–20, underlining the country’s growing strength in para table tennis across multiple categories.

Côte d’Ivoire also made its mark, with Bayala Jean Pierre earning a spirited silver in the singles, signaling the rising competitiveness of the continent.

In the men’s doubles class MD18 final, Egypt narrowly defeated Nigeria’s duo of Adesope Abiola Wali and Agunbiade Tajudeen in a thrilling 3–2 contest.
