2025 World Para Powerlifting Championships: Folashade Oluwafemiayo Sets New World Record

World champion, Folashade Oluwafemiayo has won a gold medal and set a new world record in the women’s up to 86kg category at the 2025 World Para Powerlifting Championships in Cairo, Egypt.

The Nigerian star raised the bar once again, lifting 168kg to surpass her previous mark of 167kg. The remarkable performance earned Oluwafemiayo her fourth World Championships crown for Nigeria, adding to her impressive haul of two Paralympic gold medals.

Meanwhile, Nigeria continued its strong showing at the 2025 World Para Powerlifting Championships as Ifeoluwa Alake and Franca Anigbogu claimed silver and bronze respectively in the women’s up to 61kg category. Competing against a strong field, the pair finished just behind Egypt’s Paris 2024 gold medallist Rehab Ahmed, who lifted 131kg to take gold ahead of Alake (128kg) and Anigbogu (126kg).

Nigeria’s Onyinyechi Mark also made the podium in the women’s up to 67kg category, earning a silver medal with an impressive lift behind China’s Cui Jianjin, who took gold, while Egypt’s Fatma Elyan settled for bronze.
