Akinwumi Adesina Wins 2017 World Food Prize Laureate

The President of the African Development Bank, (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina, has won the 2017 World Food Prize Laureate with a $250,000 prize for driving change in African agriculture for over 25 years and improving food security for millions across the continent.

According to Ambassador Kenneth Quinn, President of the World Food Prize Foundation:

“Awarded by the World Food Prize Foundation, the $250,000 prize honors Nigerian Dr. Adesina for his leading role over the past two decades in: significantly expanding food production in Nigeria; introducing initiatives to exponentially increase the availability of credit for smallholder farmers across the African continent; and galvanizing the political will to transform African agriculture.

The selection of President Akinwumi Adesina as the 2017 World Food Prize Laureate reflects both his breakthrough achievements as Minister of Agriculture of Nigeria and his critical role in the development of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA). It also gives further impetus to his profound vision for enhancing nutrition, uplifting smallholder farmers, and inspiring the next generation of Africans as they confront the challenges of the 21st century.”

Remita has been honoured as the Most Innovative Mobile Payment Solution of the Year at the DigitalPay Expo Awards 2017 in recognition of its contributions to the improvement of the payments processing experiences of individuals and businesses in Nigeria, through the innovation introduced by its Remita Mobile App.

According to the organisers of the awards, the recognition was bestowed on Remita because it provides “the most user-friendly payment application interface and accuracy in transactions settlements”.

The DigitalPay Expo Awards, formerly known as CardExpo Awards, is an annual three-day conference organised by Intermarc Consulting in partnership to showcase the most exciting developments within Africa’s payment industry.

GTBank & Dr. Benedict Oramah Win 2017 African Banker Awards

Winners of the 2017 African Banker awards have been announced at an event in India. The awards held annually on the fringes of the Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank, celebrates excellence in banking and finance on the African continent.

President of Afreximbank, Dr. Benedict Oramah won ‘Banker of the Year’. Afreximbank has grown considerably in the past year, whilst other metrics, such as income to cost ratio were very competitive.

Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) won the ‘African Bank of the Year Award’. GTBank posted a 37% increase in profits in 2016, despite difficult trading conditions in its main market Nigeria.

Waheed A. Olagunju, the acting CEO and Managing Director of Bank of Industry was honoured with this year’s African Banker Icon award, which recognizes a banking career that spans over two decades.

5th Nigeria Transport Awards

Two subsidiaries of SIFAX Group, SIFAX Haulage and Logistics Limited and Skyway Aviation Handling Company Limited (SAHCOL) have won the Haulage & Logistics Company of the Year as well as Aviation Handling Company of the Year awards respectively at the fifth Nigeria Transport Awards.

The Nigeria Transport Awards is an annual event designed to reward deserving companies that have shown diligence, innovation and excellence in the country’s logistics industry.

Winners Of 2016 Deutsche Bank AG Awards

Deutsche Bank AG, has rewarded Ecobank Nigeria Limited, Access Bank, Sterling Bank Plc, Stanbic IBTC and Zenith Bank, for excellence in payment efficiency, cash management and trade finance.

The first award by Deutsche Bank AG, titled “Straight-Through Processing (STP) Excellence Award”, which has been a feature of Nigeria’s financial markets for six years, went to Ecobank Nigeria Ltd, followed by Stanbic IBTC and Sterling Bank Plc.

UBA Wins Asian Banker Award for Project Execution
