Sara Adegoke defeated 16 year-old Angel MacLeod 6-4, 6-3 in an all Nigerian affair to win the McDan West Africa Open Championship 2017 held at the Accra Sports Stadium Tennis Court. She wins a $1,000 prize money in addition to silver trophies and products from the supporting sponsors including Twellium Industries, COCOBOD, GNPC and Babolat.

UNIPORT Emerges Winner of NUGA Games 2017
University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has won 150 medals comprising 70 gold, 47 silver and 33 bronze in Judo, Athletics, Taekwondo, Volleyball, Basketball, Scrabble and Tennis to emerge overall winner of the 25th Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) Games.
The NUGA Games were held at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi between April 22 and April 29 with a total of 57 contesting universities.
Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria with 16 medals comprising 11 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals followed a distant second while Benson Idahosa University (BIU) came third with 26 medals comprising 10 gold, 7 silver and 9 bronze.
University of Lagos (UNILAG) with 20 medals, made up of 9 gold, 4 silver and 7 bronze took fourth position.
9th Ibadan City Marathon Race
Philibus Sharabutu and Hudung Stephen on Sunday emerged the male and female champions of the Splash FM 9th Ibadan City Marathon Race also winning the prize money of Naira 1 million and Naira 700,000 respectively.
Sharabutu, who is from Plateau, emerged the new winner after completing the 42km race in 2 hours 36 minutes 46 seconds.
On her part, Stephen emerged the winner in the female category after completing the race in 3:08.37.
In the male category Pam Iliya emerged first runner-up and Abdulahi Ibrahim was the second runner-up.
In the female category, Elizabeth Nuhu and Kistinwa Stephen were second and third respectively.
2017 NAF Inter-Command Combat Sports Competition
Team Headquarters Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has emerged the best overall winner of the 2017 NAF Inter-Command Combat Sports Competition with 9 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals. The four days competitive sporting activities dubbed ‘Jos 2017’ began on Monday, 27 March 2017 with 6 teams competing for honours.
Team Training Command came 2nd with 8 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals while Team Special Operations Command won 2 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals to clinch the 3rd position.
Team Logistics Command came 4th with 2 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze medals, Team Tactical Air Command with 1 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze medals was in the 5th position and Team Mobility Command with 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals came 6th.
Team Nigeria Triumph At 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games
Special Olympics Nigeria athletes at the 2017 World Winter Games in Austria against all odds gave an outstanding performance winning a total of 20 medals.
Twenty two athletes participated at the Winter Games and nine officials. Special Olympics Nigeria athletes won twenty medals; twelve gold medals and eight silver medals.

West African Standard Chartered Trophy 2017 Tournament
Team Super 7 from Nigeria emerged winners at the West African regional tournament of the Standard Chartered Trophy 2017 Tournament (soccer) at the Lizzy Sports Complex hosted by Standard Chartered Bank Ghana Limited after beating Team Multichoice from Ghana to clinch this year’s regional trophy.
Nigeria will represent West Africa at the Standard Chartered Trophy Final in Anfield. This is a four-day all expense paid trip to the UK.
