D’Tigress Emerge 2019 FIBA Women Afrobasket Champions

The Nigeria Senior Women’s National Basketball team, D’Tigress, have been crowned African champions following their 60-55 win over Senegal in the final of the 2019 FIBA Women Afrobasket Championship.

The win recorded on the 18th of August 2019 at the Dakar Arena, signifies D’Tigress successfully defending the FIBA Women AfroBasket title they won two years ago as well as their fourth title overall.

Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀ has won the £15,000 9Mobile Prize for Literature for her novel, Stay With Me published by Nigerian publisher, Ouida Books.

Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀ was announced the winner at an event, which held on 8th August 2019 at the 9mobile headquarters in Banana Island, Lagos. She also received a Montblanc Meisterstück pen among several other rewards.

Ayobami’s announcement followed the unanimous selection of her book by a new judging panel for the 2018 9mobile Prize for Literature.

Black Stallions Win Inaugural Rugby President’s Cup

The Nigeria rugby national team, Black Stallions have defeated their Ghanaian counterparts 14 to 12 at the Nduom Stadium, Elmina, Ghana to win the inaugural President’s Cup trophy. The competition was organised by the two West African nations.

The match, which also marked the end of the three-nation West Africa Rugby Series that also featured Cote d’Ivoire, was highly entertaining and tough in the first stanza as neither of the teams could score a try before half time.
