Winners Of 2019 Pitcher Awards And Other Creativity Week Competitions

Winners have emerged in the 2019 Pitcher Awards and other Creativity Week Competitions presented at the Pitcher Awards Night and Gala in Lagos on 30 March 2019 as part of the Creativity Week, which held from 25 – 30 March 2019.

The Pitcher Awards is organised to celebrate and honour outstanding works from West and Central Africa in various categories including film, print, design, media, PR and digital.

According to a statement by CHINI Africa, Cannes Lions Official Festival’s representative in Nigeria and organizers of Creativity Week:

“The awards are designed to inspire creative excellence in marketing communications and help provide international recognition for the work, companies and people behind them.”

Team Nigeria Wins 2019 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT)

Team Nigeria has emerged overall winner of the 2019 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) at the Ikeja Golf Club Lagos.

The country’s lady golfers with a gross score of 493 in the 54-hole finished the tournament outstandingly, which featured players from 10 African nations. The lady golfers also emerged winners in the individual event.

Nigeria’s Alaba Adetunji was in her best form as she won the individual best score with a gross of 246 (85, 80, 81). Evelyn Oyome was second best with 247 gross (80, 81, 86) in the three-day tournament.

Nigeria’s blind women Falcons Team have won the 2019 Africa Women Blind Football Training Camp and Games held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

Nigeria’s blind women Falcons Team defeated a selected Africa Blind Women  Football Team 2-0 picked from Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Ghana.

Team Nigeria Emerge 3rd In Unilever Future Leaders League [2019]

Team Nigeria has emerged 3rd place winner in the final of the Unilever Future Leaders League held in London on April 13, 2019. This is the first-time Team Nigeria will be reaching the finals of the competition.

Out of 27 countries that participated in the finals which took place at the Hilton Towers, London, amongst the ten finalists were Team Nigeria, Team Bangladesh, Team Pakistan, Team Czech, Team Russia, Team Indonesia, Team Serbia, Team Brazil and Team Thailand.

Winners Of 2nd National Media Shooting Workshop & Competition

Winners have emerged in the second edition of the three-day National Media Shooting Workshop and Competition held at the Nigerian National Shooting Range, Package B, National Stadium Complex, Abuja.

Georgina Adegbie, a sport reporter with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) won gold medal in the female category of the Air Pisto. Adegbie came first position with 25 points to win the gold medal of the air pistol competition.

Maryland Convent Private School has emerged overall winner of the Issyma Children Foundation Competition on mathematics and science technology.

Maryland Convent Private School emerged winner with a prize of 100,000 and a laptop, while Susan Memorial School and Air force Primary School emerged first and second runners up with a cash price of 50,000 and a mini tablet and 25,000 with a mini tablet.

Oluwaseyi Shorinola, Emmanuel Balogun & Rufus Akinyemi Win 2019 FLAIR Fellowship Award

Oluwaseyi Shorinola, Emmanuel Balogun, Rufus Akinyemi and 27 other early career African scientists honoured with the 2019 FLAIR Fellowship Award.

Emmanuel Balogun, Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria; Dr. Rufus Akinyemi, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan and Dr. Oluwaseyi Shorinola, made the list of FLAIR project of the African Academy of Sciences and The Royal Society in Naivasha, Kenya.

The scientists receive $391,500 each for a two- year research project aimed at developing the continent.
