Five Africans Win Inaugural JJI Champions of Science – Africa Storytelling Challenge

Johnson & Johnson Innovation has announced five winners of the first Champions of Science – Africa Storytelling Challenge.

The Champions of Science – Africa Storytelling Challenge is aimed at highlighting the journeys of scientists and innovators working in Africa, and celebrate the impact of their work on families, communities and the world.

The Challenge received more than 100 entries from scientists and innovators in 22 African nations, including South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda, among others.

Madumere Rejoice Ngozi Wins 2019 The Ultimate Mathematics Ambassador (TUMA) Competition

Madumere Rejoice Ngozi has emerged winner in the 2019 The Ultimate Mathematics Ambassador (TUMA) competition, Ota, Ogun State.

Ten-year-old Ngozi, a pupil of Giant Stride Nursery and Primary School, Ifo, competed with over 1,200 others from 408 schools in Ogun State and other neighbouring states.

With an impressive score of 93 percent, Madumere Rejoice Ngozi beat nine-year-old Enwere Kingsley Ikenna of Cuddly Kids School and 10-year-old Oyindamola Olawale Hann of Vickstell International School, Ikorodu who both emerged first and second runners up respectively.

Joseph Adewole Wins micro:bit Global Challenge 2018 [Africa]

Joseph Adewole of Nigeria has emerged winner of micro:bit Global Challenge 2018 for the African region.

Joseph Adewole designed a system that detects the temperature of students in a class and lets their teacher know. He designed the device so that students can be treated quickly if they are ill and therefore don’t miss too much school.

Joseph Adewole made his contribution on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-being.

Susan Chioma Obasi Emerge Overall Best Graduating Student Of Caritas University

Susan Chioma Obasi has obtained a First Class in Business Administration as well as emerged as the overall Best Graduating Student of Caritas University, Amorji-Nike in Enugu State, with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.81.

The 21-year-old attended Hillcrest Preparatory and Primary School, Nsukka, and Louisville Girls Secondary School, Old Kutunku in Gwagwalada, Abuja.

The Nigerian Army female team has emerged the overall first winner of the third edition of the West African Military Semi-Marathon Tournament held at Niamey, Niger Republic.

The Nigerian Army men’s team won the third position at event on Saturday 16th February 2019.

Winners have emerged at the 2018-2019 Startupper of the Year by Total Challenge in Nigeria, held at an official ceremony on February 13 [2019] at Oriental Hotel, Lagos.

  • Ijir Aondosoo, My Waste My Energy: My Waste, My Energy converts rice husk waste to energy source and provides a sustainable form of domestic energy, reduces environmental degradation and deaths associated with respiratory diseases as Nigeria records 93,000 deaths annually due to smoke from firewood.

  • Thriveagric, a program that lowers the entry barrier for people willing to invest in agriculture by connecting farmers to crowdsourced finance;
  • Helium Health; a hospital management software;
  • Helpmum; an app that provides healthcare information to combat maternal and infant mortality;
  • eTrash2Cash; an online platform that will help low income & marginalised women earn & save cash benefits for gathering trash for recycling.
