Students from Delta State have won the 2025 National Basic Education Debate Championship and will represent Nigeria at the World Schools Debate Championship in Doha, Qatar.
The winning team — comprising Wisdom Chukwuma (Government College, Ughelli), Otorvo Uyoyou (Alegbo Secondary School, Effurun), Abraham Honour (Okpaka Secondary School), Ekhamateh Splendour (Government Model Secondary School, Asaba), and Alika Daniel (Utagba-Ogbe Grammar School, Kwale) — outshone teams from all 36 states and the FCT with their eloquence, critical thinking, and grasp of national issues.
The Delta Team distinguished themselves in the 2025 National Basic Education Debate Championship through compelling argumentation, eloquence and a firm grasp of contemporary issues, eventually outclassing contestants from other states in a series of hard-fought rounds to emerge champion.
