Alaba Akintola has emerged winner of the 60 meters race event at the 2023 UNM Team Open in New Mexico with a time of 6.61 seconds.
Deondre Spruill finished second in 6.76 seconds.
At the 2023 UNM Team Open in New Mexico, Alaba Akintola blazed to a brilliant Personal Best (PB) and School Record (SR) of 20.63 seconds to finish second in the 200 meters final.
His performance made him the first Nigerian male athlete to go sub-21s this season, the fastest time in the C-USA, and No. 6 on the NCAA top list this year.
Akintola has been in outstanding form since the season started, as two weeks ago he clocked a 60m PB and SR of 6.59 seconds, the second fastest by a Nigerian behind Favour Ashe.
The Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) sophomore student now holds the SR in the 60 meters, 200 meters indoor, 100 meters and 200 meters outdoor, making him the best sprinter in the school’s history.
