Broadcast journalist and menstrual health advocate Anike-Ade Funke Treasure has been named a recipient of the 2025 Voice of Dignity Award, presented by the Heroes of Tomorrow Africa Foundation in the United States of America.
According to a letter signed by the foundation’s director of operations, Amanda Wax, the award recognises her work in humanitarian service and media advocacy, especially in addressing period poverty and providing access to sanitary products and education for women and girls.
The statement noted that the award is given to individuals who demonstrate compassion, courage and communication in service to others.
Funke Treasure will be honoured at the Heroes of Tomorrow Africa Award Ceremony on September 20, in the United States of America.
Other recipients include Sierra Leone’s President Julius Bio, Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema, Senegal’s President Bassirou Faye, Barbados President Dame Mason, Nigerian Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Newark Mayor Ras Barak, Adeyinni Ogunkoya, Simbiat Adighije and Toyin Opesanmi.
Reacting to the award, Anike-Ade Funke Treasure stated:
“I am humbled to be recognised alongside such distinguished leaders and changemakers in Africa. This award is a reminder that impact does not always come through headlines but also through heartlines, the quiet yet powerful echoes of our work in people’s lives. I am grateful to individuals and organisations who worked with us in the last six years to achieve the impact and depth that shines through our work with the Sanitary Pad Media Campaign project. I share the honour with them all. I also use this opportunity to thank the Nigerian media across forms and formats for their relentless coverage, support and media mentions.”
Board chair of Illuminate Nigeria Development Network, the parent company of the Sanitary Pad Media Campaign (SPMC), Sidi Osho, also described the award as a result of consistent work.
Funke Treasure is the executive director of Illuminate Nigeria Development Network and convener of the Sanitary Pad Media Campaign.
She created the video podcast “My Period Stories with Funke Treasure”, currently airing on Africa Magic Family.
In 2010, she founded the Media Mentoring Initiative, which has trained students from Lagos State University.
Earlier this year, she launched the Media Mentoring Initiative Documentary Fellowship for students to nurture young documentary makers.
She has previously received several recognitions, including awards at the 2023 and 2024 Gender Mainstreaming Awards, the Iconic Brand Africa 2024 Social Impact of the Year Award and the Woman of Excellence in media honour at the Peak Performing Woman of the Year 2023 award.
