Omei Bongos-Ikwue Wins Toastmasters International Speech Contest [2018]

Omei Bongos-Ikwue has risen above her speech impairment to win the 2018 Toastmasters International Speech Contest in Accra, Ghana.

Her winning speech, entitled, “Release it”, focused on the themes of bravery, passion and generosity, which she used a moving story to illustrate that “we only receive extraordinary things when we let go of the average, or ordinary ones.”

The speeches were judged on content, organization, gestures and style.

Federal Fire Service Launches Fire Alert System Application (FASAPP) Mobile App

The Federal Fire Service of Nigeria has unveiled Fire Alert System Application (FASAPP); a mobile app to reduce the response time of firefighters to fire outbreaks in the country.

The Controller-General of the Service, Joseph Anebi, announced this during a workshop and enlightenment programme on ‘Enforcement of Fire Alarms and Extinguishing Equipment Regulation’ in Abuja.

Mr. Joseph Anebi said when fire outbreak occurs, the Fire Alert System Application (FASAPP) mobile app has the capability of informing the fire service and the owner of the building simultaneously.

Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen Conferred ISRCL 2018 Michael Hill Prize

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen, has been conferred with the ISRCL 2018 Michael Hill Prize for his reform agenda, which has positively changed the way the Nigerian judiciary works.

The 2018 Michael Hill Prize award was presented to the CJN in Montreal, Canada, by the International Society for the Reform of Criminal Law (ISRCL), an international non-governmental association of judges, legislators, lawyers, academics, and police and corrections professionals, at its 31st conference in Canada with the theme: “The Scourge of Trafficking in the 21st Century.”

Aruna Quadri Wins ITTF Nigeria Open 2018

Aruna Quadri has become the first Nigerian to win the ITTF Nigeria Open men’s singles title after defeating Frenchman, Hachard Antoine in the final match of ITTF Nigeria Open 2018 held at Molade Okoya Thomas Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

For his effort, Aruna Quadri won the ITTF Nigeria Open top prize money of $5,000. The Nigerian also won another $200 courtesy of the fair play award, which was also awarded to him.

Ayodeji Odeleye Wins NIM 2018 Young Managers Competition

The Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) has declared Ayodeji Odeleye, an Estate Surveyor, as the winner of its 2018 Edition of Young Managers Competition (YMC) held in Lagos.

The five finalists were Ayodeji Odeleye (Winner), Iyeku Akinwale (first Runner up), Caleb Eke (Second Runner up), Ibidunni Lawani (Third Runner up) and Akinkunmi Elizabeth (Fourth Runner).

The star prize for the winner is a prize of 1.5 million, while the first, second and the third runners up were rewarded with 800,000, 500,000 and 200,000 worth of management training at NIM Headquarters respectively.

Yemisi Olatunji Wins Zimbabwe Squash Open Championship [2018]

Nigeria’s number one female squash player, Yemisi Olatunji has won the SafeGuard Zimbabwe Squash Open Championship after defeating her sister, Busayo Olatunji to win the women’s final, which ended in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwe Squash Open Championship, which featured players from South Africa, Zambia, Swaziland, Nigeria and host country, Zimbabwe’s male and female teams, was organised to develop and expose African stars.
