Ndubuisi Egbo’s KF Tirana has emerged the 2019/2020 Albanian League champions [Kategoria Superiore] and have qualified for next season’s UEFA Champions League qualification stage.

KF Tirana were confirmed champions after second placed Kukesi lost 1-0 at Vllaznia on July 19, 2020.

Nneka Ede Acquires Lusitano Ginásio Clube, Futebol, SAD

Nneka Ede has purchased Portuguese clubside Lusitano Ginásio Clube, Futebol, SAD.

Starting in June 2020, Mrs. Nneka Ede has become the new owner of the 108-year-old club, which competes in the Campeonato de Portugal, the third division of Portugal’s football pyramid.

Mrs. Nneka Ede emerges as the first African woman to own a football club in Europe following her acquisition of Lusitano Ginásio Clube, Futebol, SAD  and the second Nigerian to purchase a Portuguese club after businessman Kunle Soname bought Clube Desportivo Feirense in 2015.

Victor Osimhen Wins 2020 Marc-Vivien Foe Prize In French Ligue 1 [2019/2020]

Victor Osimhen has emerged winner of the 2020 Marc-Vivien Foe prize, which crowns him as the best African player in French Ligue 1 for the 2019/2020 season.

The 21-year-old forward who scored 18 goals and recorded six assists in 38 appearances across all competitions during the campaign, becomes the youngest ever recipient of the Marc-Vivien Foe prize.

Named after late Cameroonian midfielder Marc-Vivien Foe, the late Cameroon and Olympique Lyonnais midfielder — twice an Africa Cup of Nations winner with the Indomitable Lions, passed away on the field during the 2003 Confederations Cup.

This yearly award is organized by Radio France International and France 24 to celebrate African players plying their trade in the French League.

Simon Moses Voted FC Nantes Player Of The Year [2019/2020]

Simon Moses has been voted as the player of the year at his French Ligue 1 club – FC Nantes in the truncated 2019/2020 season.

In a statement by FC Nantes on May 27th 2020, Simon Moses scored the highest number of votes from the side’s fans. Simon got 40 percent of the votes cast by the 3,500 voters, according to the French team.

The 24-year-old winger joined FC Nantes from Levante in Spain last summer, the winger has played 30 matches and scored nine goals with eight assists.

Victor Osimhen Voted Lille Olympique Sporting Club Player Of The Year [2019/2020]

Victor Osimhen has been voted as the player of the year at his French club – Lille Olympique Sporting Club (LOSC) in the truncated 2019/2020 season.

In Osimhen’s emergence as Lille’s best player in what is just his maiden campaign in the French Ligue 1, he scored 18 goals and provided six (6) assists  in 38 appearances across all competitions before the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic outbreak during the football season.

His 13 goals in the French Ligue 1 was the fourth highest in the division. The Nigeria international beat off competition from Benjamin Andre and Renato Sanches to clinch the individual accolade, according to a statement on the club website.

The award is the second he has won since teaming up with Christophe Galtier’s men, having also won the Ligue 1 Player of the Month for October in 2019.

Obiageli Solaja Wins Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA) 2019 African Women In Badminton Award

Obiageli Solaja has been awarded the 2019 African Women in Badminton Award by the Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA).

Obiageli Solaja becomes the second recipient of the award, following that of Gretha Prinsloo of South Africa who received the 2018 award last year during the BCA Annual General Meeting in Nanning China.

The honour will be bestowed at the BCA Annual General Meeting 2020 at a date to be fixed later due to the current COVID-19 global pandemic.
