ColdHubs Honored At 2020 P4G State-of-the-Art Partnership Awards

ColdHubs has emerged one of the honorees of the 2020 P4G State-of-the-Art Partnership Awards.

The Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) State-of-the-Art Partnership Awards recognize best-in-class partnership-driven business models that have achieved measurable, replicable success in key Sustainable Development Goal areas, including food, water, energy, cities and the circular economy.

The 2020 P4G State-of-the-Art Partnerships fall into two categories:

• Sector winners now in the running to be recognized as the P4G Partnership of the Year

• Up and Coming partnerships, who have only begun their journey towards delivering scalable solutions for green growth.

These partnerships join a network of more than 50 P4G partnerships providing tangible solutions for green economic growth.

An external panel of expert judges evaluated more than 60 applications to determine the sector winners. Judges included Craig Hanson, Vice President of Food, Forests, Water & the Ocean at World Resources Institute for SDG 2; Kalanithy Vairavamoorthy, Executive Director at International Water Association for SDG 6; Tracey Crowe, Chief of Staff and Director of Internal Programs at Sustainable Energy for All for SDG 7; Charlotte Breen, Head, Green Economy & Innovation at C40 for SDG 11; and David McGinty, Global Director of the Platform for Accelerating the Circular Economy (PACE) for SDG 12.

2020 P4G State-of-the-Art Partnership Winners

Grow Asia, SDG 2
The Grow Asia Secretariat in Singapore provides strategic support and coordinates regional programs to lift smallholder agriculture at scale and facilitates the development and operationalization of regional plans for climate action. Collectively, the Grow Asia network reaches 1.8 million farmers through 50 value-chain projects and initiatives. 950,000 of these smallholders are directly involved in projects, 250,000 have adopted improved practices, 175,000 farmers have achieved certification, and 16,000 have accessed credit.

FINISH Mondial, SDG 6
Financial Inclusion Improves Sanitation & Health (FINISH) Mondial scales safe sanitation with an approach that involves the supply and demand side of sanitation. This 6-country program actively engages sanitation entrepreneurs, financial institutions, NGOs and governments to generate household and commercial investments toward long-term sanitation and health improvements. In 2019, FINISH Mondial achieved over 5 million users of safe sanitation and at least 10 million paid workdays in construction alone.

SHIFT Asia, SDG 7

SHIFT creates assets that are shared across the e-mobility and power sectors improving capacity and increasing efficiency with a focus on swappable batteries for 2-wheelers, the mode of transport that is widely used across Southeast Asia. The partnership has already secured funding commitments of US$ 25 million to launch pilot projects in Thailand that will lead to investment in battery charging/swapping stations with a coverage area of 100 square kilometers, the deployment of 10,000 e-bikes , and 22,000 shared/swappable batteries.

Zero Energy Homes, SDG 11
The Net Zero Energy Homes (“NZEH”) Initiative builds inclusive and affordable net zero residences in Mexico that complement and build upon their environmental surroundings, apply energy efficient materials, use the most energy efficient and affordable appliances, and foster an energy and water efficient culture among residents. The partnership’s guidelines have already produced a 34% energy efficiency improvement through thermal insulation, and 7% through solar protection on windows. These measures resulted in utility savings of 77%, 2.4 tons greenhouse gas emissions reduction, and annual economic savings of US $253 per home.

SCAP, SDG 12
The Sustainable Clothing Action Plan 2020 Commitment (SCAP) brings together organizations from across the clothing industry to reduce the environmental impacts of clothing consumed in the United Kingdom. The partnership has already delivered 13.4% reduction in carbon, 18.1% reduction in water, 4% reduction in waste to landfill, and a 1.4% reduction in waste across the whole product life cycle.

2020 P4G State-of-the-Art Up and Coming Partnerships

ColdHubs, SDG 2
The partnership designs, builds, commissions and operates 100% solar-powered walk-in cold rooms branded as “ColdHubs” for farmers, retailers and wholesalers to store and preserve fresh fruits, vegetables and other perishable foods, extending their shelf life from two to 21 days. ColdHubs currently serves 3,517 farmers, retailers and wholesalers using its 24 installed cold rooms in 18 farms, thus saving 462,528 kg of CO2 and 20,400 tons of food.

Drinking Water Services for African Villages, SDG 6
Drinking Water Service for African Villages supports the health and economic integration of formerly water-poor areas in sub-Saharan Africa through the creation of “intelligent” water points that allow remote monitoring of water consumption and pump breakdowns. Village inhabitants have electronic cards to pay for water in a simplified way to enable pay-as-you-go flexibility. The partnership implements and manages 1400 water points within its regions of operation supplying 560,000 people with close-to-home, continuous, and affordable drinking water for the next 15 years.

Renewable Drinking Water Supply for Mekong Delta Vietnam, SDG 7
The partnership provides an innovative clean energy solution for water desalination through updated container technology. It builds renewably powered desalination containers that can supply 10 tons of drinking water per day to residents lacking a commercial power supply, drawing from the sea or brackish water without a dependence on fossil fuel.

Cura Group, SDG 11
Created in March 2020 in response to the spread of COVID-19, which led to a shortage of ICUs in many countries, CURA converts shipping containers into fully outfitted isolation wards where medical professionals can treat patients with the assurance of safety. With all the necessary medical equipment mounted inside, a CURA pod can be installed within hours and be employed in more complex configurations to accommodate more patients.

Cool Food, SDG 12
Cool Food helps dining facilities – in hotels, restaurants, and hospitals – minimize food-related greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent by 2030. The partnership commits members to reduce food-related emissions, supports them in developing plans to sell more plant-rich dishes, and promotes their achievements in line with the Paris Agreement. Established in 2018, Cool Food has already scaled to over 40 signatories that serve over 850 million meals a year. This partnership now aims to scale the program to include organizations that serve over 2 billion meals per year by the end of 2020.
