Osahon Enabulele, a physician has become the first Nigerian to head the Commonwealth Medical Association, (CMA).

He was inaugurated on the 5th of November 2019 at the 25th president of the association during the opening ceremony of the 25th Triennial Conference of the 57-year-old renowned global medical body holding in Abuja, Nigeria.

Ibadan Wins UNESCO Learning City Award 2019

Ten cities from around the world including Ibadan (Nigeria) received the 2019 UNESCO Learning Cities Award on 30 September in Medellín, Colombia on the eve of the opening of the Fourth International Conference on Learning Cities.

David Atchoarena, Director of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning stated:

“The Award is a recognition of exemplary progress made by cities in promoting inclusive education and lifelong learning in local communities.,”

It is a means to honour our network member cities as they have demonstrated remarkable progress by implementing the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC) guidelines.”

Rivers Angels Win 2019 Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) Super 4 Title

Rivers Angels have emerged winners of the 2019 Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) title after winning the Super 4 tournament that held at the Agege Township Stadium in Lagos.

Four teams competed including defending champions: Bayelsa Queens, Adamawa Queens and Confluence Queens.

Rivers Angels receives a cash prize of 3 million and a one-week tour to Spain as part of the Laliga/NWFL partnership deal, while Confluence Queens, receives 2 million, with the third-placed Bayelsa Queens receives 1 million for their efforts.

Team Nigeria Wins 2019 ITTF West Africa Challenge [Women – Tennis Single]

The Nigerian team have won gold and silver in the women’s single to emerge the overall winner at the maiden 2019 ITTF West Africa Challenge, which ended in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire on November 3, 2019.

Fatimo Bello came from behind to beat compatriot – Tosin Esther Oribamise 4-2 in the final of the women’s single.

Fatimo Bello set a record at the tournament as the only player that did not drop a game on her way to the final.

Iorliam Simon Tersoo Wins 2019 Future Maritime Leaders Essay Competition

Iorliam Simon Tersoo has won the 2019 Future Maritime Leaders essay competition organised by the Global Maritime Forum.

Tersoo’s essay titled, “Emerging Technologies: Autonomous Shipping and Seafarers’ Continuous Professional (Ir) Relevance,” was among top three essays selected from 140 shortlisted entries from 46 countries that participated in the annual competition.

41-year-old Chelochi Onyemelukwe-Onoubia, has won the award for best fiction writer at the Sharjah International Book Fair, in the United Arab Emirates.

Mrs. Chelochi Onyemelukwe-Onoubia, whose debut work, ‘Son of the House’, won in the best fiction category, was honoured by the Ruler of Sharjah, Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, on the 30th of October 2019 at the opening ceremony of the Sharjah International Book Fair, United Arab Emirate (UAE).
