Thelma Ihenacho Wins 2020 Wole Soyinka Essay Competition [Global Junior Category]

Thelma Ihenacho of Meadow Hall School has emerged global junior winner in the 2020 Wole Soyinka Essay Competition in the francophone and anglophone category.

Thelma Ihenacho receives a prize of $600.

The competition received more than 2,000 entries from more than 20 countries.

Tyrone Nkululeko Takawira from Zimbabwe of Ashesi University emerged global senior winner.

Other winners include: Toluwanimi Sonuga and Joseph Divine from Nigeria, Emily Suh from the USA, Shaoyuan Li from China, Vera Honham Anthonio from Ghana, Sampada Dahal from Nepal, and Pamphile Sassi Aubert from China/Nigeria.

The topic of the competition this year was “I AM because YOU ARE”, philosophy on the interdependence of the human family.

Covenant University Wins 2020 Enactus Nigeria Leadership And Entrepreneurship Challenge

A team from Covenant University, Ota Ogun State have emerged the national champion of the 2020 Enactus Nigeria leadership and entrepreneurship challenge.

Covenant University team’s Pet City project an environmental sustainability social enterprise structured to systematically remove plastic waste and nylon from the environment by recycling them into construction materials was adjudged the best at the 2020 competition. It was also adjudged the best in the 2019 edition of the competition.

The team from Covenant University by emerging national champion will be representing Nigeria, and competing with 35 other national champion teams at the Enactus World Cup 2020 in Netherlands in September 2020.

Dr. Adesina Akinwumi Re-Elected President Of The African Development Bank Group With 100% Votes

Dr. Adesina Akinwumi has been re-elected to serve a second five-year term as President of the African Development Bank Group on Thursday, August 27, 2020 by the Board of Governors of the Bank.

A globally renowned development economist and a World Food Prize Laureate and Sunhak Peace Prize Laureate, Dr. Adesina Akinwumi has distinguished himself in driving a bold agenda to reform the Bank and accelerate Africa’s development.

He was first elected as President of the Bank on May 28, 2015.

As newly re-elected President, Dr. Adesina Akinwumi, a former Nigerian Minister of Agriculture, will begin his new term on September 1, 2020.

The election result, which gave him a hundred percent of votes of all regional and non-regional members of the Bank, was announced by the Chairperson of the Board of Governors of the Bank, Mrs. Niale Kaba, Minister of National Planning of Côte d’Ivoire.

Runcie Chidebe Awarded IGCS 2020 Distinguished Advocacy Award

Runcie Chidebe has been named recipient of the 2020 Distinguished Advocacy Award by the International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS) during its annual global award on cancer and gynecology.

Others include:

  • Lifetime achievement awardees – Monica Bacon (Canada) and Dr. Nicoletta Colombo (Italy)
  • Excellence in Teaching awardee – Dr. Rahel Ghebre (USA)
  • Distinguished advocacy awardee – Dr. Nathalie Dauphin McKenzie (USA/Haiti)
  • 2020 IJGC award recipients – Dr. Gloria Salvo (Most Downloaded Paper Award) and Dr. David Cibula (Editor’s Choice Award) will receive the journal awards.

These award recipients will be recognized at the upcoming xDigital Annual Global Meeting of the International Gynecologic Cancer Society, which will be held in a fully digital setting this September 10-13, 2020.

The Awards Ceremony will take place during the Opening Ceremony on September 10th at 2:00 p.m. UCT.
