Victor Ndigwe Wins 2015 Elite Model Look Competition

Victor Ndigwe, 19 years-old male model has won the 2015 Elite Model Look competition. Victor was victorious along with a female winner, Mayowa Nicholas.
After winning the competition, Victor Ndigwe started out in Milan, walking the ramp for Ermenegildo Zegna and Missoni, the first ever Nigerian male model to do so. He then went on to Paris, where he made runway appearances for brands including Hermès, Balmain, Kenzo and Haider Ackermann!
Victor Nidgwe serves as an inspiration to all upcoming models, especially finalists of Aquafina Elite Model Look 2015 in Lagos. ‎
According to Victor:
“I want to inspire other models that have dreams the same way I had them. I just want to be a good example.”

The World Bank Group’s Women, Business and the Law 2016 Report

The World Bank Group’s Women, Business and the Law 2016 report has acknowledged Nigeria alongside Kenya and Ethiopia as countries with “very few barriers” to women’s entrepreneurship and employment in the areas monitored.

The report found that 28 of the 41 sub-Saharan African economies covered by the in the assessment continued to maintain restrictions that do not allow women to work in the same jobs as men, and added that property rights remain an impediment to wealth accumulation for women.

Laolu Osanyin Appointed First African Member of the Board of Governors of WAML

Nigerian medical lawyer, Laolu Osanyin, has been appointed as the first African Member of the Board of Governors of the World Association for Medical Law (WAML).

Laolu Osanyin was decorated at the 21st Annual World Congress of the Association, which took place at Coimbra, Portugal.

Anambra State Government Inaugurates Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre

The Anambra State Government has renamed the Women Development Centre in the state capital, Awka, after the late Professor Dora Nkem Akunyili, OFR, who was at various times Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and Minister of Information and Communications.

The State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. (Mrs) Uju Nwogu, said in a public service announcement that the formal renaming ceremony holds on 5th of September 2015, as part of the memorial programmes in honor of the late Amazon, who hailed from the state.

Femi Shodunke Launches Gatewaymail

A Nigerian journalist based in Canada, Femi Shodunke, has officially unveiled an online news publication website, Gatewaymail.

Femi Shodunke stated that Gatewaymail will feature general news and exclusive interviews, with a focus on Nigeria and Canada.

Mr. Shodunke is a former deputy editor of Compass newspaper. He worked at National Concord, The Comet, and The Nation before leaving for Canada.

In his words:

“Considering the position of Canada, and our people’s desire to come over here – to school and also live – I thought we could focus on news that would enrich their knowledge and provide adequate information.”

Mr. Shodunke holds a Masters Degree from the University of Ibadan, and another from Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada.
