Abdul-Qudus Ibrahim Wins 2018 Beeta Playwright Competition

Abdul-Qudus Ibrahim has emerged the overall winner of the 2018 Beeta Playwright Competition with his winning play titled: “Jagagba”.

Out of 348 entries and 10 finalists, Abdul-Qudus Ibrahim was selected and receives a reward of 1 million cash prize.

The grand finale of the second edition of Beeta Playwright Competition held on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos.

The Beeta Playwright Competition is organised by Beeta Universal Arts Foundation (BUAF), which is led by award winning actress and producer, Bikiya Graham-Douglas.

According to Bikiya Graham-Douglas:

“It is a National Competition to find the new voices of Nigerian Literature and we received 348 entries from 30 states across Nigeria.” 

The entries were judged by a panel chaired by award-winning playwright, Professor Ahmed Yerima, and a shortlist of 10 was created for the final stage: Tick Tock More Talk (Shehu Zock-Sock), Mr. Macaroni (Rukee Ejigbo), Beyond the Wig (Joshua Alabi), Echoes of the Drum (Ubonla Adenike), Jagagba (Abdul-Qudus Ibrahim), A Love like This (Kehinde Ademoye), Room 7 (Ekpeno Ukut), Transparent (Kelvinmary Ndukwe), Shark Boy (El Osas Iyalekhue) and Queen Akhadze (Elias Ozikpu).

Beeta Universal Arts Foundation (BUAF) is a foremost Nigerian Organization focused on impacting lives through performance and art education.

BUAF’s focus is to continuously project theatre as a viable and contemporary art form, expressing the skills of talented artisans by integrating popular culture in a way that would appeal to mass audiences of all age groups. BUAF currently in its sixth year, has engaged over four hundred and fifty individuals since inception through productions, art advocacy and art education.
