Lesley Nneka Arimah Wins 2019 Caine Prize For African Writing

Lesley Nneka Arimah has won the 2019 Caine Prize for African Writing for her short story entitled “Skinned”, published in McSweeney’s Quarterly Concern (Issue 53) 2018.

She has been awarded $12,500 (£10,000) for her winning the 2019 Caine Prize for African Writing.

Dr. Peter Kimani, Chair of Judges announced Lesley as the winner of the £10,000 prize at an award dinner on 8 July, 2019. The ceremony was held for the third time in Senate House, in partnership with SOAS and the Centre for African Studies.

Elnathan John Wins 2019 Prix Les Afriques For ‘Né un Mardi’

Elnathan John has won the 2019 Prix Les Afriques for ‘Né un Mardi’, the French translation of his novel ‘Born On A Tuesday’.

He receives a cash prize of €5,400, artwork worth €3,000 and the purchase of 100 copies of his book at a ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland on June 29, 2019.

Vital Years Secondary School Wins Inaugural MTN Foundation Theatre Competition

Vital Years Secondary School, Zaria, Kaduna State, has emerged the winner of the maiden edition of the MTN Foundation Theatre for Schools Competition organised for secondary schools across Nigeria.

The maiden edition of the MTN Foundation Theatre Competition, which drew participants from secondary schools across the country had its regional competitions in Ibadan, Zaria and Port-Harcourt respectively.

Idikan Baptist Comprehensive College of Ibadan emerged regional champion from the Ibadan zone while Nigeria Navy Secondary School of Port-Harcourt were the regional winners for that zone.

The eventual national winner, Vital Years Secondary School, emerged from the Zaria zone.

Accompanied by their respective coaching teams, the regional teams arrived Lagos to compete for the one million Naira prize money.

Awani, a Nigerian documentary film has won the UNESCO prize at the 2019 Afrika Filmfestival (AFF).

Awani is a historical documentary that explores the intersection between colonialism and gender inequality. The film features the perspectives of many thought leaders, social commentators, activists and historians such as Kemi Da Silva Ibru, Bismarck Rewane, Joe Odumakin, etc.

Winners Of 10th Korea-Nigeria Drawing And Painting Competition

Winners have emerged at the 10th edition of the Korea-Nigeria drawing and painting competition organized for primary schools in the Federal Capital Territory by the Korean Cultural Centre of the Korean Embassy in collaboration with Nigeria.

The award ceremony, which held on the 21st of May, 2019 in Abuja at the Korean Cultural Centre witnessed the crowning of Ruwo Wodi of Science Primary School, Kwali as the 1st place winner among the 150 pupils who participated in the competition.

Oluseyi Awojulugbe Wins 2019 APO Group Invitation Prize

Oluseyi Awojulugbe, a senior reporter with TheCable, has been announced winner of APO Group’s prize to attend the annual meetings of the African Development Bank in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

The event, which will hold between June 11 and June 14 [2019], is an annual gathering for leaders from Africa and across the world to discuss the state of the African economy against the background of leading issues and developments in the global system.
