Winners have emerged at the sixth annual Africa Check African Fact-Checking Awards held at Wits University in Johannesburg, South Africa on 29 October 2019.

Nigerian journalist Odinaka Anudu received the Fact-Check Of The Year By A Working Journalist award – the flagship award for his investigative work published in BusinessDay Nigeria, ‘Ongoing projects in South East: Truth vs Lies’.

Safiyya Ahmad Wins 2019 BBC Hausa Short Story Writing Competition

Safiyya Ahmad has won the 2019 BBC Hausa Short Story Writing Competition, with a story titled: “Maraici” (Ophanhood) after beating 25 other contestants.

Hajiya Bilkisu Yusuf, who is among the three judges, announced the winner at the Awards Night of the BBC Hausa Short Story Writing Competition held in Abuja on the 25th of October 2019.

The Ghost And The House Of Truth Wins The Best Narrative Feature At The 2019 Urban World Film Festival In New York

The Ghost and The House of Truth has won the Grand Prize for Best Narrative Feature (World Cinema) at The Urban World Film Festival in New York.

The feature movie which stars: Tope Tedela, Kate Henshaw, Seun Ajayi, Ijeoma Grace Agu, Mairo Obruthe, Susan Wokoma, Imoleayo Olusanya and Gloria Young, is a narrative of Bola Ogun, a dedicated counselor who reconciles convicts with their victims, When her 8-year-old daughter eventually goes missing and police investigation makes no headway, she is forced to question her belief in forgiveness.

Winners Of 2019 West Africa Media Excellence Awards (WAMECA)

Winners have emerged at the 2019 West Africa Media Excellence Awards (WAMECA) held on the 19th of October 2019 in Accra, Ghana.

The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), had announced a shortlist of 21 finalists from six African countries.

All 21 WAMECA finalists got Certificates of Merit while ultimate winners received plaques, certificates and cash prizes.

According to the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA):

“All 21 finalists will also be inducted as fellows of the MFWA’s Journalism for Change Network and will be offered regular training opportunities both locally and internationally to enhance their capacity to influence positive change in society through journalism.”

Jude Idada Wins NLNG 2019 Nigeria Prize For Literature

Jude Idada with his work ‘Boom Boom’ has won the Nigeria Prize for Literature, sponsored by Nigeria LNG Limited, for the 2019 cycle on Children’s Literature.

The book edged out ‘Mysteries at Ebenezer’s Lodge’ by Dunni Olatunde and ‘The Great Walls of Benin’ by O.T. Begho entries in the shortlist of three, to clinch the prize.

‘Boom Boom’ by Jude Idada had competed against 173 books submitted for the competition in March 2019 to win the $100,000 cash prize reward.

IBI (The Birth), Nimbe, Dear Bayo And Unseen Treasure Win 2019 UK Nollywood Film Festival (UKNFF) Awards

Nigerian movies: IBI (The Birth), Nimbe, Dear Bayo and Unseen Treasure, have been adjudged the best films in the United Kingdom (UK) at the 2019 UK Nollywood Film Festival (UKNFF), organized by the UK Nollywood Producers Guild.

A statement signed and issued on the 13th of October 2019 by Mr. Malcolm Benson, President, UK Nollywood Producers Guild, stated that IBI (The Birth) was adjudged the Best Indigenous (Native language) Feature Film, it also emerged Best Feature Film 2019.

Dear Bayo, won the Jury’s award, as the Unseen Treasure, emerged the best in Best Short film category, while Diced was declared the best script.
