Christiana Udoh, studying at the Imperial College in London, United Kingdom has emerged the first Nigerian to win the Dudley Newitt Prize for Experimental Excellence award.

The award was announced on February 26, 2018, during the Dudley Newitt Lecture held at the university campus.

Describing her performance during her Advanced Masters studies in Chemical Engineering as impressive, the university management offered Christiana Udoh a scholarship to commend her academic feat.

The Akwa Ibom State Government gave Udoh another scholarship award of $20,000. The State government while presenting the award to Udoh, commended Christiana Udoh for her hard work and commitment to her studies.

In the words of Christiana’s father:

“Christiana has retained her number one position and we feel thrilled about it. This shows that Nigeria is on course to favourably compete with any nation of the world.”

Catherinemary Nneamaka Ugoji, a computer science graduate has emerged as the overall best graduating student 2017 also with a first class degree at Godfrey Okoye University during the convocation ceremony held on the 10th of February, 2018.

Catherinemary Nneamaka Ugoji has proved to be a top academic from her formative years. She attended Rose Bethel Primary school, Anambra State and further proceeded to Loretto Special Science school, Adazi-Nnukwu, Anambra State. She graduated as one of the best students from her secondary school; Loretto Special Science school, Adazi-Nnukwu, Anambra with 9 A’s (Distinction).

Catherinemary Nneamaka Ugoji whose ambition is to specialize in Artificial Intelligence also took part in pagentry with her emergence as Queen of her University, Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu in Nigeria at age 17 in 2014. She eventually won the Miss Coal City Nigeria Beauty Pageant in 2015 at age 18.

At the convocation ceremony, she gave her valedictory speech titled “The Romantic Face of Programming” where she explained her fascination with programming, encouraging women to embrace the beauty of programming and computing and to specialize on it.

She was awarded a number of prizes by the University for being the Overall best graduating student for the 2017 graduands, Best in her faculty (Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences), Best in her department (Department of Computer and Mathematics) and Best in her program (Computer Science).

In her speech, she thanked the university for the opportunity given to her, her parents, siblings, family, friends and students from her alma matter, Loretto Special Science School who were in attendance at the convocation ceremony.‎

Anthony Chukwudi Mazeli, an officer of the Nigerian Army studying at the University of Lancaster, United Kingdom has obtained a Master degree with distinction in Cyber Security, coming top in his class.

Anthony Chukwudi Mazeli, also emerged with the Best Dissertation award and Best graduating student of Faculty of Science and Technology, at the University.

He was honoured at the convocation ceremony of the University, which held in UK. Mazeli carted away the coveted prizes given him in recognition of quality work and exceptional research prowess as the best graduating student in the department.

Kendra Jumbo, has graduated as the first with a first class in the Faculty of Medical, Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences from Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU) after five (5) years of study.

Kendra Jumbo won four (4) awards in her study of Medical Laboratory Science at the University namely:

• Best Graduating Student
• Best Academic Student
• Best Microbiology Student
• Medical Laboratory Scientist association of Nigeria Abia state Chapter Best Academic Student of the year.

On the 1st of February, 2018, Kendra Jumbo was inducted as a licenced Medical Laboratory Scientist.

Covenant University has emerged the first place winner in Nigeria’s stage of global CFA Institute Research Competition.

The CFA Institute Research Challenge is aimed at promoting best practices in equity research among university students globally – the next generation of analysts.

The competition promotes ethics and best practices in investment research through hands-on mentoring and presentation.

Covenant University won over University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), which emerged second and third place winners, respectively, in the competition held in Lagos.

Eight universities took part in the competition: Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Babcock University, Covenant University, Obafemi Awolowo University, Lagos Business School (LBS), University of Abuja, University of Ibadan (UI) and University of Lagos.

Covenant University consequently represents Nigeria at the Regional CFA competition in Dublin, Ireland, on April 4 and April 5, 2018.

The CFA competition in Nigeria is being sponsored by Zenith International Bank in partnership with CFA Society in Nigeria.

Speaking at the final of the competition, Mr Ebenezer Onyeagwu, the Deputy Managing Director of Zenith Bank, said:

“It is a way of encouraging the professionals to inculcate the spirit of professionalism and ethics right from very early stage.

We believe that something will be required so that we can deepen the pool of talents we have that will take care of corporate organisations tomorrow.

I find the Institute Research Challenge axiom: ‘promoting best practices in equity research among the next generation of analysts’’ quite intriguing.

It is clearly highlights succinctly what and who we are here for; the next generation of financial analysts.”

Chukwununso Nomeh, an inmate of the Enugu Maximum Security prison, has emerged the overall best post-graduate student of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prisons Special Study Centres nationwide.

Chukwununso Nomeh graduated with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.80.

The spokesperson of the Nigeria Prison Service in Enugu State, Mr. Chukwuemeka Monday stated that Chukwununso Nomeh who was convicted and sentenced in 2010 gained admission for the Masters in Business Administration (MBA) programme.

Mr. Chukwuemeka Monday further stated that a former awaiting trial inmate of the same centre, Theophilus Adeniyi, emerged the overall best graduating student in 2014 and was currently pursuing his PhD in one of the country’s universities.

The Desk Officer of Enugu Study Centre, CSP Kelvin Iloafonsi, said two other inmates also graduated from the NOUN post-graduate school.

Iloafonsi said that one of them had since been released.

The Controller of Prison in the state, Ndubuisi Ogbodo, urged the inmates to enroll in the NOUN and embrace the transformation mantra of the Controller General of Prison, Ja’afaru Ahmed.

Ogbodo said the transformation agenda focused on training and retraining of both staff and inmates.

The controller of prisons also called on the public to accept ex-convicts as reformed and responsible members of society.
