Wecyclers Wins 2019 King Baudouin African Development Prize

Wecyclers, a Lagos-Based waste recycling company, has won the 2019 King Baudouin African Development Prize worth €200,000 (104 million) for its development work in Africa.

According to Herve Lisoir, Coordinator Africa and Developing countries, King Baudouin Foundation:

Aroloye Numbere Wins World Championship 2018 In Environmental Sciences (Precipitation)

Dr. Aroloye Numbere has won the World Championship 2018 in Environmental Sciences (Precipitation) out of over 85 countries.

The purpose of the award is to identify brilliant scientists and academicians around the world through the World Championship. The World Championship is organised by International Agency for Standards and Ratings  (IARS) at international level.

According to the award organisers, Dr. Aroloye Numbere plays a vital role in advancement of scientific knowledge in Environmental Sciences (Precipitation).

His research article emerged winner among 5897 nominations from 86 countries, screened for the World Championship 2018 in Environmental Sciences (Precipitation). Dr. Aroloye Numbere lectures at the Department of Animal and Environmental Biology at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).

World Championship 2018 in Environmental Sciences (Precipitation) acknowledges the outstanding international contributions and the winner(s) is selected based on international meritorious competition.

Oluwaseun Ayodeji Osowobi Emerge 2019 Commonwealth Young Person Of The Year

Oluwaseun Ayodeji Osowobi has won the overall prize of the 2019 Commonwealth Young Person of the Year, in recognition of her efforts to end sexual violence at a ceremony at the Commonwealth’s headquarters in London.

She also emerged the Commonwealth Youth Awards regional winner for Africa and Europe, with her project focus on Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality.

Oluwaseun Ayodeji Osowobi and three other exceptional young people from India, the Solomon Islands and Saint Lucia also won prizes and received a £12,000 grant for their innovative projects.

Professor Emmanuel Ilesanmi Adeyeye has emerged the current world leader in proteomics – chemistry of proteins for the year 2018.

Professor Emmanuel Ilesanmi Adeyeye, the current Ekiti State University‘s Dean of Science, a Professor of Food Chemistry and Fellow of the Chemical Society of Nigeria tops the list of researchers from 89 countries.

He has over 200 articles in learned journals to his credit.

Nigerian researchers have identified and validated local plants for the treatment of viral infections.

The local plants include: Bambusa vulgaris (bamboo) and Aframomum melegueta (alligator pepper), Azadirachta indica (neem), Allium cepa (onion), Allium sativum (garlic), rhizomes of Curcuma longa (turmeric), and Aloe vera, Vernonia amygdalina (bitter leaf), Garcinia kola (bitter kola), Citrus medica (lemon), Cymbopogon citratus (lemon grass), Moringa, Phyllanthus amarus, avocado (Persea americana), and Gardonema mushroom.

Mfonobong Emmanuel Nelson Wins Inaugural BASF West Africa Young Female Pharmacist Of The Year Award

Ms. Mfonobong Emmanuel Nelson, a graduate of the University of Uyo, has emerged the winner of the maiden edition of the BASF West Africa Young Female Pharmacist of the Year award.

The company, in partnership with the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, had announced earlier in 2018, plans to recognise and reward young female pharmacists in an effort to raise awareness on gender gap in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, and contribute to the bridging of the gap.
