Professor Olanike Kudirat Adeyemo is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships), University of Ibadan.

Winners Of 2020 ASME Innovation Showcase (ISHOW)

Winners have emerged from the 2020 ASME Innovation Showcase with three inventors from Nigeria and Nigeria emerging as regional winners.

The three winners are: MicroFuse Technologies [Nigeria] and Ecobora Company;  Inteco Kenya Ltd [Kenya].

The winners receive Ksh. 3 million ($30,000) in seed grants and receive technical support to help bring their design innovations to market.

The winners emerged after eight socially minded teams of inventors from Nigeria, Kenya, and Egypt presented their design prototypes in a virtual event held between May 19-21 [2020].

Winners Of Standard Chartered Nigeria Inaugural Women In Technology Incubator Project

Standard Chartered Nigeria has announced the winners of the first edition of its Women in Technology Incubator.

The winners are: Obiageli Aladejebi (Store Harmony Ltd); Omozino Eguh (Yumidy Services Ltd); Opeoluwa Ashimi (Promane and Promode Limited); Salamat Rahaman (Easygas Energy Solutions Ltd); and Ore-Oluwa Solana (Ibeju-Lekki Connect).

Launched in June 2019, the SC Women in Tech Incubator was established to support and promote the economic and social development of women in Nigeria through innovation or technology led entrepreneurship.

Team Native Wins Good Governance Hackathon Competition 2020

Team Native led by Somto Momah has emerged winner of the 2020 Good Governance Hackathon Competition clinching the star prize of $10,000.

Other winners include: Team Sight, which came second with $6,000 prize, while Team Healthcare for All came third with $4,000.

The event, which held in Lagos was sponsored by the World Bank, the European Union, United Kingdom Aid (UKAID) KOICA, SEEFOR Project and Bill and Melinda Gate Foundation in collaboration with Co Creative Hub.

SmartAgro Research Cluster Develop Animal Tracking Device Named ‘NimTrack’

SmartAgro Research Cluster, a team of Nigerian researchers have developed software application solution code-named ‘NimTrack’, which is capable of tracking animal movement.

According to the researchers, the app (NimTrack) was developed in such a way that if embraced and deployed, it might signal the dead end of repeated herders/farmers crises.

NimTrack is the product of a research group, The SmartAgro Research Cluster made up of scientists from the Department of Computer Science, Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB), Abeokuta, Ogun State, in collaboration with researchers from other Nigerian universities.

Professor Ekanem Ikpi Braide Named President Of The Nigerian Academy Of Science

Professor Ekanem Ikpi Braide FAS, has been named president of the Nigerian Academy of Science.

The Nigerian Academy of Science, at its Annual General Meeting held in Lagos on Thursday, 6th of February, 2020 appointed Professor Ekanem Ikpi Braide FAS as President-elect.

Professor Ekanem Ikpi Braide FAS, who is the immediate past Vice-President of the Academy, will be the first female President of the Academy in 43 years of existence when she takes over office in January, 2021.

Professor Ekanem Ikpi Braide is a professor of Parasitology/Epidemiology and is the Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology in Lafia.

She will take over from Professor Mosto Onuoha FAS (Professor of pure and applied geophysics) and will lead the Academy in achieving an improved quality of life for the Nigerian society through the promotion and application of science and technology; as well as strengthen the nation’s ability to deliver the fruits of science to society by the acquisition, growth, and dissemination of sound scientific knowledge and facilitation of its use in the solution of major national problems.

Professor Abubakar Sambo FAS (Professor of Mechanical Engineering) is the new Vice-President of the Nigerian Academy of Science. He took over from Braide at the recently held Annual General Meeting. Sambo is a former Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, and is currently the chairman of the Ministerial Task Force on Power serving as advisory team on policies and innovative technologies.

The Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS) was established in 1977. The Academy is the foremost independent scientific body in Nigeria dedicated to the development and advancement of science, technology, and innovation in Nigeria and brings scientific knowledge to positively guide policies/strategic direction of the country.
