Ojih Favour, Idris Elizabeth, Akalugwu Chibuzor & Eghahi Anthony from Team Recycle Rex, students of Government Science and Technical College, Garki Abuja have won the Power Pitch Award in the Global Conrad Challenge Innovation Competition and multiple undergraduate scholarships.

The Conrad Challenge is an annual innovation challenge designed for high school students between the ages of 13 – 18. The challenge is designed for participants to apply their knowledge of science and technology, engineering, and mathematics to solve real-world problems around them. The competition brings together about a thousand five hundred participants worldwide.

Gradely has emerged the winner of the MEST Africa country challenge for Nigeria, which involved about 9 startups and was held on July 22, 2020.

Other startups that pitched are Edusko Africa, At your service, Scrapays, Padimi, Idera, Toju, Finance Sycamore, and Social Lender.

Finance Sycamore, Social Lender, and Toju are in the fintech sector.

Edusko Africa and Gradely are edtech startups, Scrapays is in the recycletech sector while At your service makes it easy for human resources to be found, hired and managed using tech. Padimi is a social enterprise bridging the social security gap for unbankable Africans.

Dr. Eugene Ohu, a researcher at the Lagos Business School has won a $234,000 grant from the Templeton World Charity Foundation, Inc.

A statement on the website of the school said Dr. Eugene Ohu, won the grant to conduct a two-year virtual reality research titled Teaching Children Empathy and Compassion through Virtual Reality Games.

Jayaike Ndu has emerged winner of the 2019 Google Code-In Competition – the first Nigerian and tied fifth African to achieve the feat since the inception of the competition 10 years ago.

Google Code-In is a competition for software developers between the ages of 13 and 17 years. Competitors have to work with an open source company and help improve their existing software. As at 2019, there were a total of 29 organisations in GC-I.

The 2019 Google Code-In started on December 2, 2019 about 6pm.

Professor Olanike Kudirat Adeyemo has won the Scientist of the Year 2020 Award of the International Achievements Research Center (IARC) in the Natural Sciences/Earth and related Environmental Sciences competition category.

Professor Olanike Kudirat Adeyemo is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships), University of Ibadan.

Winners have emerged from the 2020 ASME Innovation Showcase with three inventors from Nigeria and Nigeria emerging as regional winners.

The three winners are: MicroFuse Technologies [Nigeria] and Ecobora Company;  Inteco Kenya Ltd [Kenya].

The winners receive Ksh. 3 million ($30,000) in seed grants and receive technical support to help bring their design innovations to market.

The winners emerged after eight socially minded teams of inventors from Nigeria, Kenya, and Egypt presented their design prototypes in a virtual event held between May 19-21 [2020].

Standard Chartered Nigeria has announced the winners of the first edition of its Women in Technology Incubator.

The winners are: Obiageli Aladejebi (Store Harmony Ltd); Omozino Eguh (Yumidy Services Ltd); Opeoluwa Ashimi (Promane and Promode Limited); Salamat Rahaman (Easygas Energy Solutions Ltd); and Ore-Oluwa Solana (Ibeju-Lekki Connect).

Launched in June 2019, the SC Women in Tech Incubator was established to support and promote the economic and social development of women in Nigeria through innovation or technology led entrepreneurship.
