Winners Emerge At 2019 AppsAfrica Innovation Awards

Winners have emerged at the 2019 AppsAfrica innovation awards held in Cape Town, South Africa.

The AppsAfrica innovation awards attracts attention from innovators across the continent each year, with organizers getting over 400 applications from 52 countries.

This year’s awards mark the 5th by AppsAfrica honoring mobile and tech innovators in Africa. Of the 70 selected finalist, 14 products emerged winners this year from four African countries; Nigeria, Angola, Kenya and South Africa.

Team Nigeria Emerge Winner At 2019 Atoms For Africa Youth Video Competition

Youths from Nigeria, Tanzania and Kenya have been awarded first prize in the 2019 Atoms for Africa Youth Video Competition.

According to the statement from ROSATOM Central and Southern Africa, the winners received the highest number of votes from the jury and the general public via Facebook platform.

The competition was themed: “5th Atoms Empowering Africa”.

The first team of winners from Nigeria include: Egbe Joy, Derick Nwasor and Oghale Yome. The second winners from Tanzania comprised: Edgar John, Ritha Deusdedit and Theresia Mbuli and the third winners from Kenya are Wafula, Lukorito,Job Ogenche and Felix Kipng’etich.

Crop2Cash Wins 2019 Seedstars Lagos Pitch Event

Crop2Cash, an Agri-Tech startup which connects farmers with capital and markets, has emerged winner of the Nigerian edition of the Global Early-Stage Startup Competition, Seedstars, for 2019.

Medical Startup Doctoora, and e-commerce platform, Traders of Africa came second and third place respectively.

Team Requid Wins Inaugural Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) Hackathon

Team Requid has emerged the overall winner of the maiden edition of X-Kathon, a Hackathon designed by the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) to encourage technology enthusiasts to develop innovative financial technology (fintech) solution to drive up millennials participation in the capital market.

Team Requid receives the grand prize of 5 million.

The winner made the top 10 teams, including: Echo Trade; Koin-Jar; King; Finfit; Fantasy Stock Exchange; Stritbid; Trove; Investors Masterclass and Nigeria Learn.

The second position was occupied by Team Trove, which received 3 million and Team Investors Masterclass, which got 2 million.

Chiniki Guard Wins Best AI Startup Award At 2019 GITEX Future Stars Competition

Chiniki Guard, a Nigerian Information Communication Technology (ICT) start-up application, has won the best prize of $10,000 in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) category competition at the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX), which held in Dubai.

Chiniki Guard is an artificial intelligence security solution for retail stores and supermarkets, designed to monitor, detect and alert shop owners about shoplifting and suspicious behaviour in real time.

Chiniki Guard was among the 34 start-ups in the category of the Supanova finalists at the GITEX Future stars competition.

Winners Of ITU Young ICT Leaders’ Forum (YILF) Innovation Challenges 2019

Winners have emerged in the ITU Young ICT Leaders’ Forum (YILF) Innovation Challenges 2019, which took place from September 3-6 in smart city of Busan, Republic of Korea.

The Young ICT Leaders’ Forum is an annual event organized by ITU and Busan Metropolitan city. It gathered youths worldwide to learn and to share ideas about ICT development and innovations.

The 6th edition of the Young ICT leaders under the overall theme of “Mind the gap: Sustainability and Impact in Smart Cities” explored a first gap where youth entrepreneurs are inhibiting from addressing the right problems in their community, a second gap where their solutions are unable to scale in an increasingly complex and interdependent world.

Team Tech Dolphs Wins 2019 Beyond School Community Challenge

Team Tech Dolphs have emerged overall winner of the 2019 Beyond School Community Challenge with a cash reward of ₦350,000.

Team Tech Dolphs from Divine Progress School, Kaduna State was honored by the United States of America embassy in Nigeria after creating an app that could help people with disability.

Team Green Tech from Topfield College, Ajegunle, Lagos State emerged in second position with a cash reward of ₦250,000 while Team Recyclarts from the African Church Model College, Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos finished third with a cash reward of ₦100,000 and six (6) month mentorships.
