Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Performs First All-Female Crew Intelligence, Surveillance And Reconnaissance (ISR) Mission

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has conducted its first all-female crew intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) mission on 28 May 2020 using the NAF Beechcraft KingAir ISR aircraft.

The historic mission had Flying Officers Oluwabunmi Ijelu and Genevieve Nwaogwugwu as Captain and Co-Pilot, respectively, with Sergeant Njoku Patience as the Airborne Tactical Observation System (ATOS) mission operator and Lance Corporal Shawulu Godiya as the on-board technician.

Henry Ukomadu, Moshood Lasisi & Gabriel Shogaolu Honoured With Dag Hammarskjöld Medal

The United Nations Organization honours Henry Ukomadu, Moshood Lasisi and Gabriel Shogaolu and eighty (80) other military, police and civilian peacekeepers, who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2019 with the Dag Hammarskjöld Medal.

The fallen heroes were posthumously awarded the Dag Hammarskjöld Medal during a virtual award ceremony on the 29th of May 2020 to mark the 2020 International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers.

Kafayat Omolara Sanni & Tolulope Arotile Emerge NAF First Female Fighter Pilot And First Female Helicopter Pilot

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has decorated its first female fighter pilot, Flying Officer Kafayat Omolara Sanni, and the first female helicopter pilot, Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile.

They were the two female pilots among the 13 that were winged.

The two female pilots had successfully completed their pilot training courses in the United States of America and South Africa.

The Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar decorated them alongside another officer Grace Garba, the first female Air Warrant Officer, and 10 0ther officers at the NAF headquarters in Abuja on the 15th of October 2019.

Grace Garba Emerges First NAF Female Air Warrant Officer

Sadique Abubakar, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), has approved the promotion of Grace Garba, a Master Warrant Officer (MWO), to the rank of Air Warrant Officer (AWO) in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

Ibikunle Daramola, an air commodore and director of public relations for the Nigerian Air Force, announced this in a statement on October 1, 2019 in Abuja.

He said with the promotion, MWO Garba becomes the first female senior non-commissioned officer (SNCO) to be promoted to the highest rank in the non-commissioned officers’ cadre in the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

Nigeria Receive ICAO Award For Improving Security In Aviation Sector

The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has presented the “ICAO Council President’s Certificate” to Nigeria in recognition of its progress in solving aviation security and oversight deficiencies.

The President of ICAO Council, Dr. Olumuyiwa Aliu, said the certificate was in recognition of the contributions of deserving member-states to the marked improvement in global aviation safety and security.

Nigeria received the certificated based on its commitment to the effective implementation of ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices.
