Med Mind Wins 2023 UNN Bioprocess Engineering Machine Learning Interoperable Hackathon

Med Mind has emerged winner of the 2023 Bioprocess Engineering Machine Learning Interoperable Hackathon organized by the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN).

The Med Mind team developed a user-friendly chatbot equipped with features such as treatment recommendations, drug-to-drug interaction analysis, disease prediction, drug dosage optimization, and general prompt questions.

Established in 2023 by Ernest Akubueze, an accomplished Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI)  and former Electrical Engineering student at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Med Mind is on a mission to provide up-to-date and relevant health and medical information to people throughout Nigeria and Africa.

Recognizing the importance of addressing the information gap in Nigeria’s healthcare system, Ernest Akubueze and his co-founder, Samuel Onwuka, a skilled Data Scientist, built Med Mind from the ground up. The startup combines their expertise in Bioprocess Engineering and AI to create innovative solutions that tackle the lack of access to vital health and medical information faced by many Nigerians and Africans.

To ensure the chatbot delivers accurate responses, Med Mind implemented the model using Langchain as their Framework and incorporated OpenAi and Wolfram Alpha as Large Language models. Additionally, the startup utilized trustworthy sources such as Wikipedia and DuckDuckGo for prompt responses, enhancing the chatbot’s accuracy.

The win at the hackathon served as a major springboard for Med Mind, propelling them forward to bring their innovative product to market, expand their team, and provide excellent services.

Ernest Akubueze expressed his enthusiasm, stating:

“This win is a positive boost for us, and we received really good feedback. It’s just the beginning, and we’re excited to restrategize and come out stronger.”

Looking ahead, Med Mind aims to develop a fully functioning Minimum Viable Product (MVP) by incorporating user feedback. They envision securing the necessary licenses and permissions to launch the product for user consumption, while also establishing a strong brand identity and assembling a dedicated team to drive the project forward.

To achieve these ambitious goals, Med Mind recognizes the need for funding and is actively seeking early-stage investors, venture capitalists, and business mentors who can contribute to the startup’s growth and success.
