Otong Usongobong Paul Wins 2022 UBA Foundation National Essay Competition (NEC)

Otong Usongobong Paul has emerged winner of the 2022 UBA Foundation National Essay Competition (NEC) at UBA House, Lagos, on November 14, 2022.

15-year-old Otong Usongobong Paul, a student of the Federal Government Girls College in Ikot-Obio Itong, Akwa-Ibom, beat 11 other finalists to clinch the best prize at the competition, which had over 5,000 entries from students of Senior Secondary Schools in Nigeria.

As winner of the competition, which is in its 12th year, she receives a scholarship worth five million Naira to study at any African university of her choice.

She also received a brand new, state-of-the-art laptop amongst others.

Winners Of 2022 African Fact-checking Awards

Winners have emerged at the 2022 African Fact-checking Awards held on November 10, 2022 in Nairobi, Kenya, marking the end of the inaugural Africa Facts Summit 2022.

The Africa Check awards have three categories: Fact-Check of the Year by a Working Journalist; Fact-Check of the Year by a Professional Fact-Checker; and Fact-Check of the Year by a Student Journalist.

The winners of the working journalist and professional fact-checker categories each receive a cash prize of US$3,000. The runners-up received $1,500 each. The winner of the student journalist category was awarded $2,000, and the runner-up $1,000.

Febisola Olanipekun Wins Division B Title Of 2022 Malta International Scrabble Opens (MISO)

Febisola Olanipekun has emerged winner of the Division B title of the 2022 Malta International Scrabble Opens (MISO) which ended on November 7, 2022 in Malta.

Febisola picked the second tier title as she recorded a result of 18 wins and 7 losses with a cumulative spread of 784 points ahead of England’s Jack Mitchel who also recorded same score but with a lower cumulative points of 369.

James Wilkie of Scotland came third with 16 wins and 9 losses with a cumulative point of 1080.
