2021 National Universities Commission (NUC) Ranking Of Universities In Nigeria

The National Universities Commission (NUC) of Nigeria has released its 2021 ranking of universities in Nigeria on December 13, 2021.

The NUC ranking, which was carried out using twelve indicators involved 113 universities across the country.

A former Executive Secretary of NUC and lead presenter, Professor Peter Okebukola, made this known in Abuja, during a capacity building workshop on improving the ranking of public universities in Nigeria, Organised by Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).

The rankings of the institutions were based on: Student-Teacher Ratio; Percentage Female; Percentage of Full Professors; Percentage of International Staff; Percentage of International Students; Percentage of Programmes with FULL accreditation; Efficiency; All Citations Per Capita; All h-index Per Capita; All i-10-index Per Capita; Google Scholar Presence; Contribution to Knowledge Economy; and Total score, which is the summation of percentage of international staff, percentage of international students, all citations per capita, h-index per capita, i-10 index per capita and Google Scholar presence.

Taiwo Adebulu Named TheCable Journalist Of The Year 2021

Taiwo Adebulu has been named TheCable Journalist of the Year 2021 and receives a cash prize of 250,000.

The award recognises journalists within the ranks of TheCable “who have demonstrated industry, resilience and self-motivation as well as having produced impact stories during the year”.

He is the head of Fact Check Desk at TheCable and is a corps member of the America-based Report for the World (RFW), an initiative from The GroundTruth Project which supports “ground up” journalism to serve under-covered corners of the world.

Ekemini Simon & Abasifreke Effiong Win Inaugural Ray Ekpu Investigative Journalism Prize In Akwa Ibom State

An investigative report by Ekemini Simon and Abasifreke Effiong has won the maiden edition of Ray Ekpu Investigative Journalism Prize in Akwa Ibom state.

The investigative journalism prize winner commissioned by the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) was announced at Dinner and Award Night of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council, held on December 10, 2021 in Uyo.

The award instituted by Inoyo Toro Foundation, a non-profit organisation working to promote quality education and boost capacity of Journalists in Akwa Ibom State, is designed to honour Ray Ekpu, a founding member of the renowned Newswatch magazine who hails from Akwa Ibom state.

Tosin Durodola Emerges Second In 5th Border Criminologies Dissertation Prize For 2021

24-year-old Tosin Durodola has emerged runner-up of the 5th Border Criminologies Dissertation Prize for 2021.

Durodola set a new record by becoming the first African and postgraduate student from a University in the Global South to make the top two places of the Border Criminologies Masters’ Dissertation/Thesis Prize since the inception of the competition. The past winners and runners-up of the award were from Oxford, Cambridge, Glasgow and Amsterdam Universities.

The award was put together by Routledge and Oxford University’s Centre for Criminology and Border Criminologies to support early career researchers working on citizenship, migration and the intersections between border controls and criminal justice.

Bose Omolayo And Folashade Oluwafemiayo Set New Powerlifting World Records At 2021 Powerlifting Championship In Tbilisi

Bose Omolayo and Folashade Oluwafemiayo have set new world records in the up to 79kg and 86kg categories winning gold at the 2021 Powerlifting Championship in Tbilisi, Georgia.

The 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championships was a powerlifting competition for athletes with a disability. It was held in Tbilisi, Georgia from 27 November to 5 December, 2021.

The tournament was one of the compulsory tournaments to qualify for the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, France.

Team Nigeria won a total of six (6) medals: three gold; one silver and two bronze.
