Zenith Bank Plc has emerged as the Best Bank in Nigeria in the Global Finance Magazine World’s Best Banks Awards 2020.

The awards, published in the May 2020 edition of the Global Finance Magazine, was based on the performances of the banks in their respective regions and countries over the period from January 1 to December 31, 2019.

Reddington Hospital Performs First Open Heart Surgery

Reddington Hospital has successfully performed its first open heart surgery on a 66-year-old Oluwatoyin Adebiyi with multiple cardiac problems.

Olatunde Lalude, the hospital’s group medical director, announced the feat conducted by a team of 19 Nigerian medical experts at a press conference held on the 18th of May 2020.

Cobhams Asuquo Appointed UNICEF National Ambassador

Cobhams Asuquo has been appointed the National Ambassador of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

UNICEF Nigeria Representative, Peter Hawkins, announced the appointment in a statement in Kaduna on the 27th of May 2020.

Mr. Hawkins said that the appointment made the award-winning Nigerian musician, producer and songwriter, UNICEF Nigeria’s first National Ambassador in the last 15 years.

Henry Ukomadu, Moshood Lasisi & Gabriel Shogaolu Honoured With Dag Hammarskjöld Medal

The United Nations Organization honours Henry Ukomadu, Moshood Lasisi and Gabriel Shogaolu and eighty (80) other military, police and civilian peacekeepers, who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2019 with the Dag Hammarskjöld Medal.

The fallen heroes were posthumously awarded the Dag Hammarskjöld Medal during a virtual award ceremony on the 29th of May 2020 to mark the 2020 International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers.

Pemi Aguda Wins 2020 Deborah Rogers Foundation Writers Award

Pemi Aguda has emerged winner of the 2020 Deborah Rogers Foundation Writers Award for The Suicide Mothers, a work of fiction.

Ian Rankin OBE (Chair of the Judges) introduced the shortlisted authors and then announced the winner who will receive the prize of £10,000.

In second place was Stephen Buoro for The Five Sorrowful Mysteries of Andy Africa and in third place S. Bhattacharya-Woodward for Zolo and Other Stories. Both titles are works of fiction.  The authors will each receive £1,000.
