University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan Successfully Delivers First IVF Triplets

The University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan took delivery of triplets of the first In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) procedure carried out in the hospital.

The 45-minute procedure for the delivery commenced at about 1pm.

The mother and the babies – all females – are in good condition, the hospital authorities.

The babies weighed 1.4 kg, 2.5 kg and 2.4  kg respectively.

Team Delta State Wins 20th National Sports Festival

Team Delta State has emerged overall winner of the 20th National Sports Festival held in Edo State between April 2 – 14, 2021 obtaining a total of 384 medals (158 gold, 116 silver, and 110 bronze).

Team Edo State, the host, finished in second place with a total of 341 medals – 129 gold, 104 silver, and 108 bronze while Team Bayelsa State finished a third with a total of 169 medals – 56 gold, 55 silver, and 58 bronze.

Stellamaris Onyegbule Awarded The Most Innovative Optometry Student In Nigeria At The Inaugural Damian Echendu Award

Stellamaris Onyegbule has been awarded the Most Innovative Optometry Student in Nigeria at the inaugural Damian Echendu award.

The award seeks to reward, encourage innovation and creativity among optometry students in the country by supporting solution-driven innovations relevant to the practice of optometry.

Stellamaris Onyegbule, a student of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) received the award for her “Optoblink Innovation”, which is a spectacle mounted device, helps patients with dry eye due to computer vision syndrome.

Stellamaris expressed her sincere gratitude to God, her parents, brothers, her  Professors (Professor E.C Esenwah, Professor N.C Ikoro, Professor O.U Amaechi), her Head of Department – Dr. Y.C Azuamah, and the rest of her lecturers.

Professor Nnenna Otti has emerged as the first Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) female Vice Chancellor.

Her appointment as the 8th Substantive Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University,  succeeds Professor N.J Okeudo whose tenure has elapsed. Before the new post, she was the Dean of Post Graduate Studies.

Professor Nnenna Otti is from the Department of Soil Science Technology, SAAT.

Team Foris Labs Wins Stanford Center On Longevity Design Challenge Competition 2020-2021

Team Foris Labs has been named winner of the Stanford Center on Longevity 2020-2021 Design Challenge competition receiving $10,000 prize after defeating 222 other entries from 37 countries over the course of the competition.

The Foris Labs team comprised of John Onuigbo from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Nigeria (COOU) and Kyrian Obikwelu from Federal University of Technology Owerri, Nigeria (FUTO).

The team experienced the difficulty of trying to learn science lab skills while online schooling with poor internet connectivity during the COVID-19 pandemic. They presented their design for an offline platform that simulates a science lab for high school students, in which they can perform individual or group experiments.
