Oshoala Asisat Wins 2019 CAF African Women’s Best Player Award

Nigeria and Barcelona forward Oshoala Asisat has won the 2019 African Women’s Player of the Year at the CAF Awards in a ceremony held on the 7th of January 2020 in Hurghada, Egypt.

In walking to the winners’ podium, Oshoala Asisat dethroned 2018 winner South Africa forward Thembi Kgatlana and Cameroon’s Ajara Nchout, who were also up for the award.

It was the fourth time for Oshoala Asisat to be named Africa’s best women’s player and she has now equalled compatriot Perpetua Nkwocha, who also won the same award on four occasions before.

After winning the 2014, 2016 and 2017 awards, Oshoala Asisat reclaimed the prestigious crown for women’s football in Africa.

Conjoined Twins Successfully Separated At National Medical Center, Abuja

A conjoined set of twins (Mercy and Goodness Ede) that had one liver, a protruding tummy and a lower chest were successfully separated, in a 12-hour surgery involving 78 medical personnel, at the National medical center, Abuja.

The leader of the team that performed the surgery, pediatric surgeon Professor Emmanuel Ameh, said the twins had to be monitored for 15 months before the separation was done because the twins needed to grow well in order to withstand the complex surgery. He noted that nutrition and infection control were critical in the preparation.

Winners Of 28th Diamond Award For Media Excellence (DAME)

Winners have emerged at the 28th Diamond Award for Media Excellence (DAME) which held on 29 December 2019, at Sheraton hotel, Lagos.

According to Lanre Idowu, the Supervising Trustee of DAME while giving an opening remark at the awards:

“The media is an important institution in nation building. DAME awards honour journalists who have distinguished themselves in different areas of the career to represent the best interest of the country.”
