Moruf Adegesin and Evelyn Oyome have emerged winners of the 7th Sovereign Trust Insurance Golf Open on the 24th of March, 2019.

The three-day 7th Sovereign Trust Insurance Golf Open held at Ibadan Golf Club (IGC) had participants drawn from across the country.

Moruf Adegesin, who is on handicap four, played 148 gross to emerge overall winner, while Evelyn Oyome, a Nigeria female golfer, emerged winner in the ladies category after playing 158 gross.

Emmanuel Amuneke Guides Tanzania To AFCON After 39 Years

Emmanuel Amuneke has guided Tanzania to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) stage for the first time since 1980 after a 3-0 win over Uganda.

The east African nation stunned Group L leaders (Uganda) to record an historic victory in front of home fans at the National Stadium on the 24th of March, 2019.

The feat also makes Emmanuel Amuneke the first Nigerian head coach to guide the Tanzanian national team to the AFCON and the second Nigerian head coach, after late Stephen Keshi [with Togo and Nigeria], to guide a country to the biennial continental showpiece.

3,050 Entrepreneurs Win 5th Cycle Of The TEF Entrepreneurship Programme

Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) has announced 3,050 entrepreneurs as winners for the 5th cycle of the TEF Entrepreneurship Programme.

The Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) committed to empowering African entrepreneurs, announced 3,050 African entrepreneurs, drawn from all 54 African countries, selected to join the 5th cycle of its $100million TEF Entrepreneurship Programme.

The announcement was made at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, following a presentation of the selection process by Accenture Development Partners.

Bala Magaji Emerge NOUN Best Graduating Student [2018/2019]

45-year-old Bala Magaji, have graduated with a degree in Islamic Studies, emerging as the best graduating student of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) for the 2018/2019 academic year.

Mr. Bala Magaji, who was showered with praises at the 8th convocation ceremony of the university in Abuja said a university degree is not cheap or easy but can open doors to great benefits.

Mr. Magaji recorded a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.8.

Nigeria Qualifies For First Under-19 Cricket World Cup

Nigeria’s under-19 Cricket Team, the “Junior Yellow Green”, on the 23rd of March 2019 booked the country’s first ever spot at the Cricket World Cup.

They achieved this feat after topping the week-long qualifying series that was concluded in Windhoek, Namibia. The team defeated Sierra Leone with two wickets on the final day of the Africa qualifying tournament.

Adebayo Alonge’s RxAll Wins 2019 BNP Paribas Group DeepTech Prize

Adebayo Alonge’s startup – RxAll has won the 2019 BNP Paribas Group Deep Tech Prize for co-developing a handheld nanoscanners that uses artificial intelligence to identify fake drugs and assess general drug quality on mobile phones.

The 2019 BNP Paribas Group DeepTech Prize comes with a €100,000 prize.

An emotional Adebayo Alonge while receiving the award, said:

“Thank you so much. It’s been a long journey personally for me, from the 15 years when I was surviving from a fake drug to standing today in front of you here and letting you to be in my dream and the dream of my co-founders to make sure that most of people are safe from fake medicines.”

Winners Of 2019 Rotary Spelling Bee Competition

Winners have emerged in the yearly Spelling Bee Competition held by Rotary International District 9110. They are Miss Nicole Okpala of Mayors Heights College, first position; Daniella Moseri, also of Mayors Heights College, second position and Ibrahim Olapade of Oregun Senior High School, Ikeja, Lagos, who came third.

Eight schools competed in the over one hour event. They were represented by two pupils each. Besides Mayors Heights College and Oregun Senior High School, the other schools were Command Day Secondary School, Ikeja, Charles Lorie French College, Eko Akete Senior Grammar School, Olomu High School, David Hall School, and Oxbridge Tutorial College. The pupils answered over 100 questions drawn from several subjects in the spelling competition.
