Akinfoluhan Akinleye and Chinedu Mgbemena have emerged overall winners respectively in the junior and senior categories of the 2018 Cowbellpedia Mathematics Quiz.

13-year-old Akinfoluhan Akinleye is a student of The Ambassadors College, Ota, Ogun State while 17-year-old Chinedu Mgbemena is a student of Graceland International School, Port Harcourt.

As part of the 20th anniversary of Cowbell and Mathematics in Nigeria, the champions in both categories received increased prize money of 2 million each with an all-expense paid educational excursion outside the country.

Lawrence Deborah Wins 2018 NSE Annual Essay Competition

Miss Lawrence Deborah, a student of Good Shepherd School, Ajegunle Village, Atan-Ota, Ogun State, has emerged overall winner of the 2018 edition of the Nigerian Stock Exchange Annual Essay Competition for students in Senior Secondary Schools in Nigeria.

The 2018 NSE Annual Essay Competition and Scholarship, themed “Building a Sustainable Capital Market”, is one of the Exchange’s financial literacy and inclusion initiatives aimed at building a financially savvy generation. The winners were announced during an awards ceremony at the Civic Center, Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Miss Lawrence Deborah clinched the first position ahead of over 20,150 participants across the country, winning 500,000 scholarship fund for her university education, 250,000 equity investment, and a laptop, with her school also rewarded with a trophy, three desktop computers, and a printer.

Edo State Donates Neonatal Complex & Offers Free Maternal New-Born And Child Health Week (MNCHW)

The Edo State government has launched a Maternal New-Born and Child Health Week (MNCHW) with free services to mothers and pregnant women from November 19th – 23rd [2018] with the Edo State Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Office handing over a neonatal complex to the management of Stella Obasanjo Hospital in Benin City, to provide neonatal health care services for new-borns.

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has urged mothers and pregnant women to take advantage of the Maternal New-born and Child Health Week (MNCHW) being observed and accessible Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) and other designated health facilities across the state to access free maternal health services.

Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Amsterdam-based leading sustainability impact measurement and reporting standards body, has appointed Bekeme Olowola, founder/chief executive of CSR-in-Action, headquartered in Nigeria, as a member of its Board of Directors, where she will be joining a leading caste of global sustainability professionals.

Bekeme Olowola, who is the first West African member on the Board of Directors, will commence her three-year appointment on January 1, 2019. University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has emerged the overall winner of the 14th West Africa University Games (WAUG) hosted by the institution in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

UNIPORT won the 13-day competition with 75 gold, 36 silver and 24 bronze medals to top the medals table.

The Love Of A Nigerian! By Ogigbah Esiri

Nigeria; home to over 190 million people, 250 ethnic groups and twice as many languages, is by far the most populated African nation. Naturally the diversity should engender disparity amongst Nigerians, but the reverse is the case as Nigerians have proved that truly there can be unity in diversity. In most big cities in Nigeria it is common to find people from all over the nation and even foreigners present and living together with no form of discrimination. This is perhaps more alarming considering the fact that Nigeria is going through what some would call a dark age, characterized by; a dwindling economy, genocides, increased mortality, rising crime rate, fraudulent activities and many more unfavorable realities. In the midst of the chaos, corruption and poverty, Nigerians have shown time and again that they are indeed a hospitable, patient and well meaning people. Even the somewhat lax security in the nation hasn’t been able to stop the arrival of tourists and foreigners. What then is it that makes Nigeria welcoming? What is it that attracts many to this great nation? Surely, it is not the tourist attractions or employment opportunities, neither is it the standard of living in the nation, because many countries surpass Nigeria in these aspects. Then, it must be the people. What is it about Nigerians that makes them different? What genuinely makes Nigerians kind and cooperative? What makes Nigerians tolerant and well-meaning towards one another and humanity today?
