Solaris Greentech, Knownow Africa Blockchain & Specxcare Limited Win 2023 Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) Talent Hunt Research

Solaris Greentech, Knownow Africa Blockchain and Specxcare Limited have emerged winners of the 2023 Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) Talent Hunt Research through Hackathon.

Announcing the winners at the NCC Headquarters in Abuja, President of Digital Bridge Institute, Professor Mohammed Ajiya said the Hackathon was geared towards fostering economic growth and social advancement in Nigeria.

The winners included Solaris Greentech, which won the renewable energy thematic area; Knownow Africa Blockchain won the blockchain thematic area while Specxcare Limited won the assistive tech thematic area. He said.

Professor Ajiya said the 2023 NCC Talent Hunt Research through Hackathon, which is the third in the series was organized as part of efforts by the commission to give expression to its Strategic Vision Plan 2023-2025, to encourage the development of new technologies and indigenous content through cutting-edge research.

According to him, the 2023: Hackathon focuses on Blockchain-enabled Data Protection Solutions for Enhancing Regulatory Compliance; Assistive Technology Solutions for the Elderly and People with Disabilities; as well as Technology Solutions for Renewable Energy in Rural Areas.

NCC Director of Research and Development, Alhaji Ismail Adedigba explained that the NCC Talent Hunt Research through Hackathon offers invaluable and innovative solutions not only to the telecommunications sector.

The director maintained that the competition would enable the translation of novel ideas into the development of hardware and software solutions to address industry and societal challenges.

The Executive Commissioner, Technical Services (ECTS) Ubale Musa said the event provided an avenue to address societal issues.

Throughout the years, the Commission has actively promoted hackathon competitions, each with a thematic focus aimed at addressing significant challenges within our industries and society as a whole.

In his words on the 2023 Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) Talent Hunt Research:

“Some noteworthy examples include hackathons that yielded innovative solutions for issues such as kidnapping and banditry, E-waste management, and strategies to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Two of the winners, Pharmacist Isa Dahiru the founder of Specxcare Limited and Chemila Anosike the founder of Solaris Greentech, thanked the NCC for providing them the platform and called on investors within and outside the country to leverage on the solutions from the NCC talent hunt search in meeting their technological needs.
