Octave Analytics Wins Inaugural Zenith Bank Hackathon ‘Zenathon’

Octave Analytics has emerged the overall winner of the Zenith Bank inaugural hackathon ‘Zenathon’.

Zenith Tech Fair, which held on November 27, 2019, at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos, convened over 2,000 participants and 50 exhibitors, including Mercedes Benz, Microsoft and IBM, who showcased leading technology innovation across different spheres of life. The tech conference was themed “Future Forward”.

Zenith Bank gave the 10 finalists of its inaugural hackathon up to $77,000 (₦28 million) grant funding, making it the highest prize-money of any bank-organized hackathon in Nigeria.

Winners Of 2019 Wole Soyinka Center For Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ)

Ibanga Isine, a journalist with the Next Edition newspaper, has won the 2019 Nigerian Investigative Journalist of the Year Award given by the Wole Soyinka Center for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ).

Mr. Isine also emerged winner for the online category, with his report published in April 2019 on “How bribe-taking security operatives gang-force Nigerians to pay dearly for food.”

Thirteen journalists received awards and commendations at the 2019 edition.

Ojo Taiye and Ope Adedeji have emerged among the winners of the 2019 Brittle Paper Awards, which aim to recognize the finest, original pieces of writing by Africans published online—writing that has prompted, enhanced, or defined conversations.

The $1,100 prize money is split across five categories: The Brittle Paper Award for Fiction ($200), The Brittle Paper Award for Poetry ($200), The Brittle Paper Award for Creative Nonfiction ($200), The Brittle Paper Award for Essays & Think Pieces ($200), and The Brittle Paper Anniversary Award ($300), for writing published on the Brittle Paper website.
