Abiola Ogunbanwo Becomes First Nigerian Woman To Finish 100 Meters Swimming Freestyle Under A Minute

17-year-old Abiola Ogunbanwo has set a new national record by becoming the first Nigerian woman to finish the 100 meters swimming freestyle under a minute.

She achieved the feat on the 28th of July 2021 at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre during the Tokyo Olympics in Japan having won Heat 1 of the swimming event in 59.74 seconds.

With the feat, she has broken a longstanding Nigerian record of 1:00.50 set by Ngozi Monu, which had served as the benchmark since 2007.

Yusuf Bilesanmi Voted Inaugural Winner Of Africa Prize For Engineering Innovation “One To Watch” Award

Yusuf Bilesanmi has been voted as the inaugural winner of the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation “One To Watch” award.

Yusuf was one of the twelve (12) innovators who pitched their innovations to a live audience who voted his – ShiVent – as one that showed promise and potential for impact. He also received a £5,000 prize.

ShiVent is a low-cost, non-electric and non-invasive ventilator for patients with respiratory difficulties, available at a fraction of the cost of mechanical ventilators. Its simple design enables it to be operated by unspecialised healthcare workers.

ShiVent is designed for under-resourced clinics with unreliable electricity supply and limited access to specialist knowledge.

The Board of Directors of Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO) has appointed Miriam Olusanya as the new managing director (MD) of GTBank Limited, its subsidiary.

On 13 July 2021, the company unveiled its new brand identity to commemorate the listing of its shares on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX).

Olasubomi Iginla Aina Elected As Director Of The Global NGO Executive Committee (GNEC)

Olasubomi Iginla Aina has been elected as a Director of the Global Non-Government Organisation Executive Committee (GNEC).

Alongside the other 17 individuals which form the GNEC, they act as the liaison between the NGO community and the United Nations (UN) through the Department of Global Communication of the UN.

Following this appointment, Olasubomi Iginla Aina becomes the only Nigerian on the GNEC, which comprises representatives elected by civil society organizations that are officially associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications (UNDGC).

She brings in professional experience, ground-breaking ideas and creativity which will be of great benefit to Global NGOs, relevant stakeholders & the Executive Committee.
