The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has been awarded the sum of two million dollars ($2 million) by the Cancer Research Institute (CRI) in the United States, for cancer research into a permanent yet affordable treatment of the disease.

The synergy between CRI and the OAU Medical College actually began in 2010 with a ten (10) year plan, which surprisingly was attained within a few years.

Queen Elizabeth II of Britain has conferred one of the highest national honours, Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire, on a British-born Nigerian nurse, health expert, lecturer and medical professor, Ms. Elizabeth Nneka Anionwu.

The Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire conferment on Dame Anionwu of Irish and Nigerian descent was in recognition of her services to the nursing profession in the United Kingdom.

According to the Governor:

“Lagos is currently home to about 23 million inhabitants with an estimated 86 people moving into Lagos every hour. This creates challenges of managing a daily increase in human and vehicular movement.”

While alluding to the objective of his administration to make every community in Lagos economically liveable and stem rural-urban flight, the Governor assures that deliberate initiatives have been put in place to address the housing deficit, transport challenges and economic development, among others.

A Nigerian chef, Gbubemi Fregene, also called Chef Fregz, is being celebrated in the CNN African Voices, sponsored by Nigeria’s foremost telecommunications operator, Globacom.

He has established a reputation in the industry as a young chef who has something new and different to offer.

Olutayo Arikawe, a community pharmacist and pharmacist manager at Priory Community Pharmacy in Dudley, wins the Chemist and Druggist (C+D) Community Pharmacist of the Year and Pharmacy Manager of the year awards 2016.

Independent pharmacist Arikawe Olutayo has been named as the winner of the ‘I Love My Pharmacist Award’ 2016.

The award was presented following a final judging panel day at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in London, during which each of the six regional finalists were given the opportunity to highlight their work and healthcare initiatives in a ten-minute presentation.
