Nuhu Ribadu Wins Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence (ACE) Award 2018

Nuhu Ribadu, is among eight individuals and organisations recognised at the Third annual Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence (ACE) Award 2018.

The pioneer chairman of Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu with honorees from Asia, America, Africa, Oceania and Europe were recognised for their role in curtailing corruption at an event held Friday in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

Nuhu Ribadu and Leonard Frank McCarthy emerged the two winners in the category of Anti-Corruption Lifetime Achievement.

Held to coincide with International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9, the winners were presented their award by Tamim Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar; Malaysian Prime Minister, Mahathir Mohamad; the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Yury Fedotov; and the Qatari Attorney General Ali Al-Marri.

Dr. Akinwumi Adesina Named 2019 Sunhak Peace Prize Laureate

The Sunhak Peace Prize Committee has announced the selection of Dr. Akinwumi Adesina and Waris Dirie as its 2019 laureates at the Cape Town International Convention Center.

53-year-old Waris Dirie is a world-class supermodel and anti-FGM activist while Dr. Akinwumi Adesina currently serves as the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The Sunhak Peace Prize honours individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to the peace and the welfare of the future generations.

The Sunhak Peace Prize includes a cash prize totaling $1 million.

Nigerian Winners Of 2018 Google Impact Challenge In Africa

Nigerian winners have emerged at the first Google Impact Challenge in Africa during simultaneous events held in Lagos, Johannesburg and Nairobi.

This is in part fulfillment of Google’s commitment to grant a total of $20 million, over the next five years, to non-profits that are working to improve lives across Africa.

The first tranche, $6 million in total, is granted to the newly declared winners — 12 from each represented country (Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa), 36 in total.

Shalom Chorale have emerged winners of the BBC Songs of Praise Gospel Choir of The Year 2018 competition in the United Kingdom.

Shalom Chorale is a gospel choir group in the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries church (MFM) United Kingdom. The Shalom Chorale is a group of singers with a passion for music and faith in God with their mission being to share the message of peace and love through godly music.

The annual event organized by the British Broadcasting Commission (BBC) Songs of Praise, had several choirs from around Great Britain enter in, but only 5 were selected as finalists, with Shalom Chorale emerging as winners during the final episode on 25th November, which was aired on BBC One.

OAU Wins 2018 CFA Society Nigeria Ethics Challenge

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has won the national finals of the 2018 Ethics Challenge of the CFA Society Nigeria sponsored by FirstBank of Nigeria Limited.

OAU emerged winner ahead of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and University of Nigeria (UNN), who came second and third respectively in a competition that involved 15 universities.

Bekeme Olowola Appointed Board Member Of Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)

Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Amsterdam-based leading sustainability impact measurement and reporting standards body, has appointed Bekeme Olowola, founder/chief executive of CSR-in-Action, headquartered in Nigeria, as a member of its Board of Directors, where she will be joining a leading caste of global sustainability professionals.

Bekeme Olowola, who is the first West African member on the Board of Directors, will commence her three-year appointment on January 1, 2019. She was appointed alongside Jack Ehnes, CEO, The California State Teachers Employees’ Retirement System (CalSTRS), USA, and Jianzhong Lu, China president of Weir Group, China.

Adepeju Jaiyeoba Wins 2018 Prince Of Wales Young Sustainability Entrepreneur Award

Adepeju Jaiyeoba, has been awarded the 2018 Prince of Wales Young Sustainability Entrepreneur Award for her social enterprise that supplies birthing kits to health centres.

As the HRH Prince of Wales Young Sustainability Entrepreneur Prize winner, Adepeju Jaiyeoba receives a €50,000 cash award and the remaining seven winners will each receive a €8,500 cash award.
