ColdHubs Wins 2018 NEF Africa Energy Ideas Competition

ColdHubs Nigeria has emerged as the overall winner of the 2018 Africa Energy Ideas Competition at the Nigerian Energy Forum (NEF) with its Solar Cold Room innovation.

Nigeria Future Energy Group (NiFEG) received the 2nd place award.

Nugenesis Energy emerged third and was awarded a cash prize of 200,000.

15 finalists emerged out of the 72 entries received. Nigeria had nine (9) entries out of the 15 finalists.

The Nigerian finalist ideas include:

  • DC-AC Solar PV
  • Biopaddy Rice
  • Ubabio Energy
  • Data Renewables
  • Solar Cold Rooms
  • Smart Bio-digester
  • Fybertronics
  • B-Cube Energy
  • Up-NASPA

The 2018 Africa Energy Ideas Competition seeks to accelerate the development of early-stage energy firms across Africa through rapid delivery of modern energy services to millions of households and businesses using sustainable and affordable energy technologies.

The competition challenges early-stage energy entrepreneurs from Africa to collaborate with local research institutions or industries to develop a prototype model of a key device/equipment for a social energy enterprise or energy management system using local resources.

The evaluation criteria included local content, originality and creativity, commercial viability and clarity.

The independent expert reviewers were:

  • Marc Cheah-Mane, PhD (Research Associate: Tech. University of Catalonia, Spain)
  • Engr. Atinuke W. Owolabi (CEO: Wurvicat International Limited, Nigeria)
  • Karolina A. Rucinska (Project Development Officer: Cardiff University, UK)
  • Jadeed Beita, CEng (Combustion Engineer, Siemens, UK)
