Felix Ariguzo, a teacher with Mastercare International School, Asaba, Delta state, has emerged the Maltina Teacher of the Year for 2017.

Ariguzo was rewarded with 1 million at the grand finale of the competition which held in Lagos.

According to the organisers (Nigerian Breweries- Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund), Felix Ariguzo will receive 1 million every year for the next five years and also be sent for a training programme abroad.

The organisers also promised to build a block of six classrooms at the school where the winner teaches.

Felix Ariguzo, a Biology and Chemistry teacher, said he draws inspiration from his love for service and knowledge building.

He thanked Nigerian Breweries for the gesture and enjoined other corporate organisations to follow the “worthy example”.

In his words:

“Today, I am very happy and proud that Nigerian Breweries has shown that teachers’ rewards are both in heaven and on earth.”

Launched in 2015, the organisers said the Maltina Teacher of the Year competition seeks to reward hard work, commitment and diligence to duty by teachers.

The Nigerian Breweries- Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund was established to give voice to the company’s philosophy of “winning with Nigeria,” through active support of Nigeria’s educational system.

According to Johan Doyer, the Managing Director of Nigerian Breweries Plc.:

“Today’s grand finale gives us an opportunity to share happiness with our teachers and I hope that this initiative reminds everyone to support and encourage our teachers always.”

Idiat Adebule, deputy governor of Lagos state, who was represented by Adesina Odeyemi, a permanent secretary in the ministry of education, pledged support for education at all levels and applauded the initiative by the company.

Chika Ume-Ezeoke, a Biology teacher at Our Lady of Apostle, Yaba, Lagos state, and Samuel Emochuaogu an English teacher, at Winners International Academy, Yenagoa, Bayelsa state came in second and third respectively.
