UNILAG Ranked Third Most Productive School In Africa In Educating Entrepreneurs [2020]

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has been ranked as the third (3rd) most productive school in educating entrepreneurs in an online publication by Forbes titled: If You Want To Start A Tech-Company In Africa, Go To College.”

UNILAG was ranked alongside the University of Cape Town, South Africa, which took 1st place; Makerere University, Uganda, which came 2nd; University of Nairobi, Kenya, which came 4th and Stellenbosch University, South Africa, which took 5th place.

The article further described the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and the University of Nairobi as the “startup powerhouses of Nigeria and Kenya.”

Jayaike Ndu Wins 2019 Google Code-In Competition

Jayaike Ndu has emerged winner of the 2019 Google Code-In Competition – the first Nigerian and tied fifth African to achieve the feat since the inception of the competition 10 years ago.

Google Code-In is a competition for software developers between the ages of 13 and 17 years. Competitors have to work with an open source company and help improve their existing software. As at 2019, there were a total of 29 organisations in GC-I.

The 2019 Google Code-In started on December 2, 2019 about 6pm.

Professor Olanike Kudirat Adeyemo is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships), University of Ibadan.

Winners Of 2020 ASME Innovation Showcase (ISHOW)

Winners have emerged from the 2020 ASME Innovation Showcase with three inventors from Nigeria and Nigeria emerging as regional winners.

The three winners are: MicroFuse Technologies [Nigeria] and Ecobora Company;  Inteco Kenya Ltd [Kenya].

The winners receive Ksh. 3 million ($30,000) in seed grants and receive technical support to help bring their design innovations to market.

The winners emerged after eight socially minded teams of inventors from Nigeria, Kenya, and Egypt presented their design prototypes in a virtual event held between May 19-21 [2020].

Winners Of Standard Chartered Nigeria Inaugural Women In Technology Incubator Project

Standard Chartered Nigeria has announced the winners of the first edition of its Women in Technology Incubator.

The winners are: Obiageli Aladejebi (Store Harmony Ltd); Omozino Eguh (Yumidy Services Ltd); Opeoluwa Ashimi (Promane and Promode Limited); Salamat Rahaman (Easygas Energy Solutions Ltd); and Ore-Oluwa Solana (Ibeju-Lekki Connect).

Launched in June 2019, the SC Women in Tech Incubator was established to support and promote the economic and social development of women in Nigeria through innovation or technology led entrepreneurship.

Innocent Chizaram Ilo Emerges Regional Winner For Africa Of The 2020 Commonwealth Short Story Prize

Innocent Chizaram Ilo has emerged the regional winner for Africa of the 2020 Commonwealth Short Story Prize for his story “When a Woman Renounces Motherhood.”

23-year-old Innocent Chizaram Ilo is the youngest writer to be awarded the Africa region prize since its establishment in 2012.

He joins an illustrious line of Nigerian literary figures like Jekwu Anyaegbun who won with the entry, ‘Morrison Okoli’ in 2012; Lesley Armah who won with ‘Light’ in 2016; Akwaeke Emezi who won with ‘Who is like God’ in 2017 and Efua Traoré, with ‘True Happiness’ in 2018.
