Pemi Aguda Wins 2020 Deborah Rogers Foundation Writers Award

Pemi Aguda has emerged winner of the 2020 Deborah Rogers Foundation Writers Award for The Suicide Mothers, a work of fiction.

Ian Rankin OBE (Chair of the Judges) introduced the shortlisted authors and then announced the winner who will receive the prize of £10,000.

In second place was Stephen Buoro for The Five Sorrowful Mysteries of Andy Africa and in third place S. Bhattacharya-Woodward for Zolo and Other Stories. Both titles are works of fiction.  The authors will each receive £1,000.

Rachel Ashegbofe Ikemeh Wins 2020 Whitley Awards

Rachel Ashegbofe Ikemeh has won the 2020 Whitley Award worth £40,000 for her work with chimpanzees in Nigeria.

Rachel Ashegbofe Ikemeh is among six conservationists to receive 2020 Whitley Awards to support their work to conserve some of the planet’s most endangered species and spectacular natural habitats. While normally presented to winners by charity Patron HRH Princess Royal at an annual ceremony in London, the 2020 Whitley Awards Ceremony was postponed due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Nevertheless, the winners will receive their funding now, they will be invited to attend a ceremony and related events in London later this year to celebrate their achievements, should circumstances allow.

Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), has been awarded the 8th African Leadership Magazine African Of The Year 2019 award at a ceremony held in Johannesburg.

Themed ‘Africa for Africans – Exploring the Gains of a Connected Continent’, the event brought together dignitaries including South African Deputy President, David D. Mabuza, South African Ministers Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and Lindiwe Zulu, and Dr. Ken Giami, Publisher of African Leadership Magazine.
