Call For Entries: Hult Prize UNIPORT On Campus Challenge 2020

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) is pleased to announce its hosting of the Hult Prize On Campus Program 2020 and calls for inspiring, innovative and bold ideas from the students of the University of Port Harcourt towards building sustainable and positively impactful business startups.

The Hult Prize is a global student competition, which annually issues a big bold challenge aligned with a large market opportunity inspiring students from over 100 countries to solve critical problems.

The theme of the 2020 Hult Prize Challenge is “Building Startups That Have A Positive Impact On Our Planet With Every Dollar Earned” with the overall team winner receiving a seed fund of $1 million (USD) to fund their idea.

UNIPORT On Campus

The Hult Prize On Campus is therefore a preliminary and key program of the Hult Prize Challenge, which gives students an opportunity to host local Hult Prize programs on their university campus, including an on Campus final round afterwards, the Regional Finals rounds of the competition, etc.

The UNIPORT Hult Prize On Campus Program seeks teams consisting of 3-4 current students from the university including all undergraduate, graduate, Ph.D programs and departments.

The benefits of participating in the program includes: mentorship of competitors by professionals; special workshop training for all competitiors; etc. as well as a chance to win the $1 million (USD) grand prize to implement your idea.

Chiniki Guard, a Nigerian Information Communication Technology (ICT) start-up application, has won the best prize of $10,000 in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) category competition at the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX), which held in Dubai.

Chiniki Guard is an artificial intelligence security solution for retail stores and supermarkets, designed to monitor, detect and alert shop owners about shoplifting and suspicious behaviour in real time.

Chiniki Guard was among the 34 start-ups in the category of the Supanova finalists at the GITEX Future stars competition.

Winners Of 2019 PwC Media Excellence Awards

Winners have emerged at the 2019 PwC Media Excellence Awards.

The PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Media Excellence Awards celebrates and rewards excellence in business reporting in Nigeria. The competition is open to professional journalists on a full time employment or freelancers, working in Nigeria, who have produced a story that falls within the categories covered by the award and that is available on a platform whose primary audience is Nigeria.

The journalists selected in each category by the panel of judges are named the Journalist of the year in that category and receive a cash prize of 500,000 Naira.

Team Nigeria Wins Inaugural Middle East Africa Rugby League

Nigeria’s national rugby league team have won the inaugural Middle East Africa Rugby League by beating Morocco 38 to 16 in the final of the championship played at TBS Cricket Ground, Lagos.

The championship, the first of its kind in Africa, featured four countries, including Ghana, Cameroun, Morocco and host Nigeria.

Grace Garba Emerges First NAF Female Air Warrant Officer

Sadique Abubakar, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), has approved the promotion of Grace Garba, a Master Warrant Officer (MWO), to the rank of Air Warrant Officer (AWO) in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

Ibikunle Daramola, an air commodore and director of public relations for the Nigerian Air Force, announced this in a statement on October 1, 2019 in Abuja.

He said with the promotion, MWO Garba becomes the first female senior non-commissioned officer (SNCO) to be promoted to the highest rank in the non-commissioned officers’ cadre in the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

Winners Of ITU Young ICT Leaders’ Forum (YILF) Innovation Challenges 2019

Winners have emerged in the ITU Young ICT Leaders’ Forum (YILF) Innovation Challenges 2019, which took place from September 3-6 in smart city of Busan, Republic of Korea.

The Young ICT Leaders’ Forum is an annual event organized by ITU and Busan Metropolitan city. It gathered youths worldwide to learn and to share ideas about ICT development and innovations.

The 6th edition of the Young ICT leaders under the overall theme of “Mind the gap: Sustainability and Impact in Smart Cities” explored a first gap where youth entrepreneurs are inhibiting from addressing the right problems in their community, a second gap where their solutions are unable to scale in an increasingly complex and interdependent world.
