‘Daughters of Chibok’ Wins Best VR Story Award At 76th Venice International Film Festival

Nigerian film, ‘Daughters of Chibok’, has won the best virtual reality (VR) immersive story for linear content award at the 76th Venice International Film Festival.

The film, which addresses the impact of the kidnapped Chibok girls on their surviving family members, also aims to remind the global community on the need to rescue the remaining 112 school girls still in Boko Haram captivity.

Dr. Mathew Aneke & Professor Meihong Wang Win 2019 NLNG Nigeria Prize For Science

The Advisory Board of the Nigeria Prize for Science has announced the works by Professor Meihong Wang and Dr. Mathew Aneke on Carbon Capture, Carbon Utilization, and Biomass Gasification and Energy Storage for Power Generation as the winning works for the 2019 NLNG Nigeria Prize for Science worth $100,000.

In its 15 years history, this is the first time a non-Nigerian has been awarded the Prize, which is sponsored by Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG). This is also the third joint winners’ award since inception in 2004.

Tade Ipadeola Selected To Participate In 2019 International Writing Programme (IWP)

Tade Ipadeola has been selected to participate in the International Writing Programme (IWP) Fall Residency at the University of Iowa, courtesy of the United States Department of State.

From September 1 to November 16, 2019, Tade Ipadeola, the 2013 winner of the Nigeria Prize for Literature, joins 28 other accomplished writers from across the globe in the world’s oldest and largest multinational writing residency.

Adedapo Adeniruju Wins Second Edition Of UNICAF Essay Competition

27-year-old Adedapo Adeniruju has emerged overall winner of the second edition of the UNICAF Essay Competition and rewarded with a full online UNICAF scholarship for a Master’s degree and a laptop.

Victor Nwachukwu, a 25-year-old graduate of Civil Engineering came second and was rewarded with a tablet and a monetary prize of $500, while 22-year-old Asiboje Esereosonobrugwe, came third.

Chukwudi Anyanaso & Elizabeth Kperrun Win 2019 Commonwealth Innovation For Sustainable Development Awards

Chukwudi Anyanaso and Elizabeth Kperrun have emerged among the fifteen winners of the 2019 Commonwealth Innovation for Sustainable Development Awards.

Fifteen winners were selected by an independent jury, based on the impact or potential of their innovations to advance one or more of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Held at the Commonwealth headquarters in Marlborough House, London, the awards recognised, celebrated and showcased impactful innovations and forward-looking solutions which help Commonwealth countries develop and advance the Commonwealth charter values.

The Duke of Sussex, Prince Henry Charles Albert David (Prince Harry), Commonwealth Youth Ambassador, presented special prizes to the innovators in international development at a garden party celebrating the Commonwealth’s 70th anniversary. The Duke of Sussex gave each of them a trophy, a certificate and a £2,000 prize.

Team Nigeria Wins 2019 African Regional Technovation Contest

Team Nigeria with four female students from Princeton College, Lagos emerge winners of the 2019 African regional Technovation Contest, which held in Lagos.

The students developed an application called “Frostbits” to help curb obstructive parking in Lagos and across other states in Nigeria. Frostbits will leverage the use of location sensors, database and app inventor’s interface. User will be able to park their cars without worrying about interference from other drivers through the use of the app.
